Oh shit. Im done for. This is no way Im going to be anything less than a half-functioning zombie for the next 7 weeks until this drama ends. How could the writers of that crapola Beethoven Virus be writing this amazing drama? My mind, it boggles at this incongruity. Every time I think I know what to expect, TK2H throws me for a loop. This drama perfectly balances the personal (a very palpable love story) with the political (the North-South cultural and political divide), but then does so with a cast of normal and functional characters (aside from the villain). I cant get over just how AWESOME all the family members are. We have Hang Ahs devoted daddy, who rushes down to South Korea the moment he hears his daughter trying to hide tear tears over the phone. We have super maknae younger sister Jae Shin, who knows her oppa so well shes able to cut through his defensive and immature bullshit and get him to come clean with Hang Ah. And never forget wonderful Jae Kang, who tries to balance being a good King to a country and a caring brother.

Every time the drama takes Jae Ha to the extreme, it brings him right back by the way Hang Ah reacts. She never acts the victim, despite her honest tears, because she is able to counter Jae Has tactics with her own one-two punch. And in that way, she renders him even more defenseless in front of her, until he finally confesses that he does like her. Jae Has confession was followed by his very valid point that his feelings doesnt matter in this situation, its never going to work between then anyway. And that was all Hang Ah wanted to hear, that this wasnt some sort of vile game he concocted, but the actions of a spoiled and scared man trying to maintain control over his runaway feelings. That she can forgive and understand, because shes a compassionate person. Shes not going to make Jae Ha marry her, and her ease at letting him go only makes him even more loathe to let her walk away. They are like the most devastatingly fascinating drama couple Ive seen in quite some time.

Rewind to the year 1589, the twenty-second year of King Seonjo’s reign. He wakes from a nightmare/memory of his childhood, where the court’s face reader had foretold that he would bring disaster to the nation if he were to become king, citing his unsuitable features and the Yongahn Biseo, the secret book of physiognomy that’s been handed down since Joseon was founded.

But when the ailing king suddenly died—leaving Seonjo was next in line for the throne—the face reader wielded a sword on the then-prince Seonjo, prepared to kill him for the good of the country.

In the present, King Seonjo is taken to a village suffering from an outbreak of the plague. Those who aren’t burning in mass graves are vomiting blood, but Seonjo surprises his attendants when he takes the hand of a man who collapses at his feet.

Soo-young asks what she should do… wait? But Min-seok goes on about how he heard about her situation and why she was absent for Dad’s birthday. “I never once thought that I was younger than you, but embarrassingly enough, I realized that I am younger. I’m eighteen. I’m selfish. School’s not that easy, and I don’t know what I’m doing for my future. The way I am now, I have nothing to offer. I can’t stand the person I am right now. I’m sorry.” With that, he asks for one last chance for skinship and kisses her on the forehead as a farewell gesture.

Min-seok walks away in tears, but he’s stopped by Soo-young, who asks him not to go. Not telling him about the bungee jump situation is her fault. “Even if you don’t do anything, having you by my side gives me strength. If the problem is school, I can help you. If it’s about your father being lonely, I’ll be your family. Let’s… let’s get married!”

Min-seok replies with a big “Huh?!” (exactly my response) and asks if she remembers that he’s a high-schooler. Soo-young nods and explains that she can’t think of any other option at this point. After a moment of ice cream eating silence, Min-seok agrees to her proposal and pulls her into a hug. They’re getting married.

Hilariously this episodes attempt at trying to redeem Guan Jun failed miserably and only made me loathe him more with his me-first attitude towards everything. Hes like an 8-year old boy in the body of a 32-year old, and how that even qualifies as a hero worth rooting for might just be the greatest mystery of the 2013 TW-drama season so far. Terry continues to have so much screen time random people checking out an episode would think he was the leading man without a doubt, and root for him to speak his mind to Guan Jun and Da Hua. Shes also starting to grate on me with her dimness, which was cute initially because I thought her extravagant adventure would smarten her up. So far shes shown no mental growth and the lack of office politics at Sheng Da is really dragging down this drama. What happened to Terrys career on the line over the botched land auction? What happened to Da Hua learning Liang Yens job and maybe acquiring skills beyond selling items at a corner market and cleaning up Lin Guan Juns mess? This episode showed that the writer is probably at a loss for how to proceed since the drama has turned out very differently then it was initially marketed as, so the questions remainsstay true to the course or walk a different path to see what the journey holds?

Terry sits in his office brooding. His face lights up the moment he hears Da Hua knocking on his door. Chris Wus acting is just magnificent in how quickly that smile is contained as he adjusts his relief and happiness at seeing her after the cat is now out of the bag with her family.

Guan Jun apparently took intelligence and maturity pills from the last episode to this one, having suddenly become a savvy businessman and great negotiator for complex real estate transactions. He also seems to have cut it with the intense antagonism towards Terry, though he still sneers too much for me to handle. Da Hua is less bumbling or clueless, and her heart is in the right place but still her actions end up accidentally undermining Terry. Ive discovered that Terry really is a true gentleman and a real decent human being. He never talks badly about Guan Jun to Da Hua, and he always looks at the situation and not the person. I have mad love and respect for him, and honestly the drama offing Liang Yen is a travesty unless its going to replace her with Da Hua. I dont even care that shes the heroine and gets to pick her manshe picks Terry or else shes dead to me. Yup, Im done with being considerate and patient, this girl needs to wise up and see the man who stares at her with so much affection in his eyes I just want to yank her out of that screen and crawl in there myself and soak up all those stares. Mmmm, delicious.

The Jin ladies find out that their no-good family patriarch gambled again and this time lost an even bigger sum of money. Even selling their little store isnt enough to repay the debt.

Why? Because she's asking Bong Sook for a place to stay. Bong Sook is more than happy to have her and get rid of the good-for-nothing roommate. But she also wants to know the gossip? She she leave for Jae-hyuk's company because she and Young-gul fought or because of Jae-hyuk?

Finally, he gives up and undresses in his bedroom. HOO-FRICKIN'-RAY! She gets all embarrassed but continues to stand firm, even curling up on the sofa with a pillow. He watches her, I bet he's impressed by her gumption (part of why he likes her) and incredulous and a bit unnerved and unsure of what to do.

Now for my Jae-hyuk spiel. I'm assuming that he never worked this hard for An-na. Sure, he probably romanced her, spouted pretty words and gave her a good roll in the sack, but I don't think that she affected change in his worldview as Ga-young has. Ga-young is more than a new toy for him, but someone he actually respects and *gasp* apologizes to. With An-na he makes excuses or covers his guilt with anger.

That said, just because he's changing in one area, doesn't mean he's a good man for Ga-young even though they look ridiculously cute together. He needs a 360 personality makeover. He's started with the whole shy-school-boy-in-love bit, but it has yet to pervade his being. In the end, despite my hankering for Lee Je-hoon, I hope he learns to be a better person from Ga-young.

This is the episode where Young-gul and Ga-young's romance could've started. But a few monkey wrenches get thrown in. I'm sure we will have a whole mess of misunderstandings caused by secrets and lack of communication starting next episode. As for this one, I should hate Jae-hyuk. I really should. And I should think Young-gul's jealousy is stupid because he doesn't say anything to Ga-young. Should. But these boys are too cute. An-na is pathetic. Ga-young needs to step up and affect change herself instead of riding the tide.

Michael has called "Young Girl" and their conversation wakes Ga-young who excitedly listens to Young-gul's side. The sketchy designer wonders if Young-gul can be in New York the next Monday. Although Young-gul's calendar is full, he agrees.
