Chanel set sail for Seoul to present its 2015-16 Cruise Collection on Monday evening at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza in the center of Korea"s capital city. And to tie in with the destination of choice, head designer and creative director Karl Lagerfeld drew inspiration from hanbok, the Korean traditional dress, for the illustrious brand"s latest ready-to-wear line. Chanel chooses a different city to showcase its travel collection, with Seoul being the second Asian port of call to play host to the annual fashion show after Singapore. Using an explosion of bright colors such as fuchsia, coral, orange, celadon, mint green and royal blue, Lagerfeld reinterpreted hanbok by combining it with Chanel"s iconic woven tweed pieces. The designer infused his outfits with a touch of the traditional Korean dress by giving his jackets large sleeves and rounded shoulders with flat, folded or notched collars. The trousers were cut wide and kept short or tightened at the hem, providing a new look. Ethereal, geometric patchwork and multicolored stripes combined with delicate floral and marquetry-style embroidery also gave the collection an Eastern twist. At the end of the show, the 1,200 carefully selected guests - including actresses Kristen Stewart and Tilda Swinton, actor Gaspard Ulliel, model Gisele Bundchen, K-pop stars G-Dragon and Taeyang and Korean actress Han Ye-seul, were given a performance by DJ Mademoiselle Yulia and a private concert by the French musician Cerrone, followed by a set from DJ Tim Sweeney. [Show Review] Exo-K, Shinee And Music Take Over Seoul Girls Collection 2013
Starting off with GLAMVILLE, the clothes looked like they came straight out of a Hongdae store, meant to outfit girls hoping to emulate 2NE1 or 4minute. The next collection from EEOOM was much more ladylike, and heavy on the demure blouses and polka dots, but still seemed to be fit more for a teenager attempting to look more grown-up.The looks from dU’gonG followed the same train, with classic lace and streamlined midi-length chiffon dresses dominating the collection.
But AUMI brought usback to the clubwear - a little more refined than the clothes from GLAMVILLE, but still highly casual - made for flirting, rather than dancing.
