KBS, MBC, SBS Cautiously Announce Wed-Thurs Dramas Are a Go This Week, Variety Shows Are Still Canceled

The main three broadcast stations KBS, MBC, and SBS announced that they’ll air their Wednesday and Thursday dramas, “Golden Cross,” “Cunning Single Lady,” “Three Days,” respectively, tonight. However, they will not air their variety programs including “Vitamin,” “Radio Star,” “Midnight TV Entertainment,” respectively.

Instead, the main three broadcast stations plan to fill in the variety show timeslots with news updating the Sewol ferry tragedy or documentary programs.

Many high school students boarded the ill-fated Sewol ferry seven days ago on April 16 for a field trip to Jeju Island when the ferry was capsized around the area of Jindo, an island near South Jeolla Province

K-Pop Idols Participate in the Yellow Ribbon Campaign for the Sewol Ferry Disaster Victims

The past week has been a time of trial for Korea as the tragic Sewol ferry accident has shaken the country with hope, sorrow, and anger. Amid these times of hardships, celebrities have been taking part in the Yellow Ribbon Campaign by setting their sns profile images as or posting an image of a yellow ribbon. The Yellow Ribbon Campaign aimed to bring the mourning people of Korea together through the belief that “a small, unified movement can create a big miracle.”

On April 22, Girls’ Generation‘s Sooyoung posted the Yellow Ribbon Campaign poster on her Instagram. Furthermore, Secret‘s Jun Hyosung retweetedyell a tweet in regards the campaign, indicating her hope for the safe return of all the students and passengers on board the Sewol ferry

“Secret Love Affair”, “God’s Gift – 14 days” and more dramas will resume broadcast

Empress Ki, God’s Gift – 14 Days, Secret Love Affair, A Witch’s Romance and “Their Perfect Day” are most likely set to resume regular broadcasts this week.

Most South Korea broadcasting stations had put their shows on hold due to the Sewol ferry incident that happened last week. As a sign of respect and mourning, variety shows were cancelled and some dramas were delayed to be broadcasted. However,m this week, most dramas have already resumed broadcast. Though MBC, KBS 2TV, JTBC and SBS revealed that even if they’ll be airing some of dramas again, changes may still occur especially if some progress have come to light regarding the Sewol ferry incident, they will still switch to news flash for updates.

In addition, MBC also released an official statement saying that Empress Ki will still continue its regular broadcast since the incident also happened after the drama has been aired

Dramas Resume Programming, Ratings And Wrap-Up Plans Affected By Tragedy

As programming slowly resumes its normal schedule, data on the ratings is once again being counted. In general viewership is down but the order of the drama ratings is not unexpected.

"Empress Ki" maintained the lead on the Monday night dramas but with a lower margin, as the nation remained focused on rescue efforts following the Sewol ferry disaster.

Despite the final episodes seeing the culmination of Seungnyang"s efforts to vanquish her enemies, "Empress KI" earned ratings of only 22.9 percent, which is 3.2 percent lower than last week.

This week"s first episode showed Seungnyang, played by Ha Ji Won, defeating her ally-turned-enemy Bayan, played by Kim Young Ho. She had the help of his nephew Tal Tal, played by Jin Yi Han. She also ordered Bayan"s niece, played by Lim Joo Eun, to be poisoned for her attempt to kill Prince Maha

UEE comments on the roles that she wished she had, ambition for variety shows, and Orange Caramel

After School"s UEE shared her growing ambition for acting and variety shows, and she also gave her two cents on her group"s subunit Orange Caramel.

During a recent interview with TV Daily, UEE shared how she relieves her stress from filming, "Every time I finish a production, I get my hair dyed with a bright color and get my nails done to get out of my work zone."

She also revealed she wants to appear on "1N2D" and "Running Man", "Now that I"m done with my latest production, I want to show my various charms on variety shows during my hiatus... Although I"ve been a fixed member on variety shows, as you may already know, I"ve never been able to do it from start to finish... I have confidence in being a guest. A lot of angels come on "1N2D"

MBC variety shows to slowly get back

MBC is considering to get their regular variety shows back in the usual time slots.
MBC has just announced variety show schedule for upcoming weekend. They will be slowly putting back the schedule to the normal setting. 'Infinite Challenge', 'We got Married', 'Quiz to Change the World', 'Dad Where are you going' and 'Real Men' will be airing as usual. Kang Ho Dong's new show 'Stargazing' and 'The road of Comedy' will also air on 24th and 27th for the first time.
However, the broadcast station's reps revealed that the schedule may change again and other programs later this week are still not decided to air or not, it really depends on the ferry situation.
SBS and KBS are still discussing on airing the scheduled programs.

After School’s Uee Considers Going to ‘The Jungle’

After School’s Uee is currently positively considering joining SBS’ The Laws of the Jungle

Uee’s agency, Pledis, spoke with Newsen on April 22, saying, “Uee received an offer to appear on The Laws of the Jungle and we are positively taking it into consideration. Her participation isn’t confirmed just yet.”

The offer given to Uee for The Laws of the Jungle will take her to an island in the Indian Ocean. The PD in charge of the episodes will be Park Mi Yeon, who took the reins in the Micronesia episodes. The staff had already visited the island in early April.

Uee has appealed to the public as an After School member with a sexy and healthy image. She’s also appeared in KBS’ Ojakyo Brothers and MBC’s Golden Rainbow, transforming into actress, while she’s also showed her potential on variety shows such as SBS’ Night After Night and Barefooted Friends

UEE in talks to join ‘Laws of the Jungle’ Indian Ocean Island edition

After School"s UEE is in talks to join the "Laws of the Jungle" Indian Ocean Island edition!

Several reports cited SBS reps mentioning that the idol-turned-actress had been cast already, but her agency Pledis Entertainment told media outlets on the 22nd, "UEE has received the casting offer for SBS" "Laws of the Jungle" and is reviewing it positively. Her appearance has not been confirmed yet."

UEE fits the bill for "Laws of the Jungle" with her healthy image and swimming background which would especially be of help for surviving on the islands of the Indian Ocean. UEE is also no stranger to variety shows as a former member on "Night After Night" and "Barefoot Friends".

Now that she has finished filming "Golden Rainbow", it looks like UEE may be stepping back into variety shows so stay tuned for official confirmation!

MBC denies reports of resuming variety shows starting with ‘Radio Star’ tomorrow

MBC recently created some confusion with their schedule released for this week as it had shown their regular variety shows airing in the usual time slots. This resulted in several reports about variety shows resuming starting tomorrow, but the station has since then issued a statement to state that "Radio Star" has been canceled, but that the other shows later this week may or may not air depending on the situation.

Since the station previously said that they will continue suspending variety shows, the new schedule had viewers believing this meant the station may have changed its mind and that regular programming would resume starting with "Radio Star" tomorrow.

However, MBC revealed that for now "Radio Star" is still not set to air. After holding a meeting today, a rep commented, "We believed that there is a risk in airing a variety show when mourning continues, so it has been canceled for this week

K-Dramas Start Returning to Regularly Scheduled Broadcasts

In the state of having brought all televised programming to a halt in the days following the Sewol ferry accident, it looks like drama programming is going to return to normal, with the exception of variety shows.

Looking at the program log for KBS, SBS, and MBC for April 22, most dramas (daily and prime-time) are expected to air as regularly scheduled, while some are still double-booked with news programs.

On April 22, MBC will be airing “Everybody Kimchi,” “Shining Romance,” and “Empress Ki” as scheduled. KBS 2TV’s daily evening drama, “Sky Angel,” will air as regularly scheduled. SBS has some programs double-booked. Its daily drama “A Well-Grown Daughter” is expected to air as scheduled, but the time slot for its Monday-Thursday drama, “God’s Gift – 14 Days,” which is 10:00 PM, is double booked with more SBS news programs
