On Wednesday it was announced that Jo Kwon, frontman of the K-pop boy band 2AM, will get a chance to show his dramatic range this summer with a lead role in a Seoul production of the popular musical "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert."

But pop stars taking musical theater roles is nothing new. Here is our list of five pop stars that have found major success on a different stage.

Kim Hyun Joong Admits To Dating Secretly

Kim Hyun Joong has been doing a lot of talking about dating lately but he"s not giving up any names. Nor is he likely to.

In a recent interview with Newsen, he confessed that he has dated in secret and he would never go public with a relationship.

"If I say I don"t date, that would be a lie. I dated in secret a year ago, but I am not dating currently," said the singer and "Inspiring Generation" star.

If he really cared for someone he would not want to expose that person to media scrutiny or tarnish her reputation in any way.

"I noticed that when people date publicly and breakup, it"s usually the woman who suffers for it," he said. "I don"t think there"s any need for a woman who may later marry someone else to have the title of my woman following them

2AM’s Jo Kwon Set to Make Musical Return

2AM member Jo Kwon is set to star in “Priscilla”, a musical adaptation of the hit movie “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

A spokesperson for Seol&Company, the production group behind the musical, confirmed the news, saying, “Jo Kwon will be appearing in ‘Priscilla’ from July 3, at the LG Arts Center in Seoul.”

The comedy musical tells the tale of three cross-dressing men who take a life-changing journey together across the Australian outback. Among the musical numbers included are versions of hit songs from the 1980s and 1990s, originally performed by artists such as Madonna and Cyndi Lauper.

Jo Kwon will play the role of Adam, one of the three male leads. Adam, a cheeky troublemaker, was portrayed by actor Guy Pearce in the original Australian movie, released in 1994

In a recent interview with Newsen, Kim Hyun Joong was asked about marriage given that he is in his late twenties. He shared that marriage might not be in the cards for him, "I don"t think I will be able to... I have to go to the military and if I do other things, I will be over 35 years old... In the past, I thought that I really have to [get married someday] but now I don"t have confidence. I love work so much so I don"t think I will be able to be faithful to my family. If a dilemma suddenly comes about in my drama, singing, and concerts one day, then I think I will do it."

He was also asked about his love life to which he honesty remarked, "If I say I don"t date, that would be a lie

The atmosphere behind-the-scenes was just as lively as everyone seemed to be full of laughs and have gotten close throughout the three months of filming the drama.

The drama"s production company rep commented, "With only two episodes left, the actors don"t show signs of exhaustion, and are showing their fire of passion and working hard... We will do our best until the finale and we will show the happiness on set through "Cunning Single Lady"

South Korean Entertainment Industry Halts Programming And Events In Wake Of Ferry Tragedy

A day after the a South Korean ferry carrying hundreds of people sank 11 miles off the country"s coast, the Korean Entertainment industry has decided to halt programming and schedules while the search continues for the 290 missing passengers.

Shock and horror has rattled the nation as citizens mourn one of the most tragic peacetime disasters in recent South Korean history.The ferry, bound for the southern island of Jeju, sank on Wednesday carrying 475 people, including 325 students and 14 teachers from Danwon High School, only 170 of whom have been accounted for so far.

In light of recent events, many major players in the Korean entertainment industry have put their schedules on hold as rescue efforts continue.

With the majority of South Korean broadcast networks focusing on the incident and its aftermath, entertainment programming will be cancelled for at least the next few days

2AM lead vocalist Jo Kwon will get a chance to show his dramatic range this summer with a lead role in a Seoul production of the popular musical "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert."

Jo will reportedly play the part of a homosexual drag queen in the production, which opens at the LG Arts Center in the Gangnam District in July.

According to a representative for the singer from 2AM"s record label JYP Entertainment, despite the risqué nature of the role, Jo jumped at a chance to star in the musical, based on Australian director Stephan Elliott"s 1994 cult film classic, "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert."

"It"s a gay role," Jo"s rep told eNEWS on Wednesday.

"He could feel a bit burdened by that fact, but because the role is quite unique and the production itself has a lot of good feedback, he decided to appear in it

2AM Jo Kwon to Act as a Gay Drag Queen in New Musical

Taking on a new character challenge, 2AM Jo Kwon has been cast in the new music Priscilla, the Queen of the Desert.

On April 16, Newsen spoke with a JYP Entertainment rep, who said, “Jo Kwon has been cast as the main lead in the musical Priscilla."

Priscilla is a hit musical about a transgender and two gay men who travel to perform at a drag show. The 28 musical numbers in the production include hit pop songs by Madonna, Cindy Lauper, and other artists who are loved around the world.

Jo Kwon will be playing the role of Adam, a gay drag queen who sings and dances on stage.

“It’s a gay role. He could feel a bit burden by it, but because the role is quite unique and the production itself has a lot of good feedback, he decided to appear in it,” said the rep
