T.O.P (Choi Seung-hyeon) of boy band Big Bang has been booked for smoking marijuana, police said Thursday.
T.O.P started his mandatory military service as an auxiliary police officer in February, his main duty being to promote the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency as a member of the police band.
He is accused of smoking liquid marijuana, a highly concentrated form of the drug, at his home in Seoul in October last year with a 21-year-old woman.
The woman, identified only by her surname Han, is a friend and training to be a singer. Han confessed in March, when they were caught, and police took hair samples from both and they tested positive.
T.O.P. initially claimed he was smoking tobacco and only the woman marijuana. YG Entertainment, which manages T.O.P., said in a statement that the entertainer “willingly submitted to questioning, admitted most of the charges and feels deeply remorseful”.
The star has been on leave from police duty since late last month. A police source said, “Our policy is not to punish officers for offenses committed before joining the force, so he was able to go on leave”.
