Jessica Tells All about Post-Girl’s Generation Life and Future Plans In a new pictorial and interview with Marie Claire, Jessica tells all about parting ways with Girls’ Generation and her plans for the future.

Unlike previous photo shoots where Jessica would arrive in a hubbub with her manager and staff, the singer arrived at the studio alone. As the shoot fell on the day before her birthday, Jessica’s closest fans gifted the staff on set and Jessica with cupcakes, drinks, and scented candles.

Jessica starts the interview cautiously, “To be honest, I tend to be afraid of doing interviews. There have been times when an article distorts what I said, leading often to misunderstandings. But it’s not like I can explain myself every time that happens. Looking at the big picture, I think saying less is better than saying more. There are times when I feel like I’m hearing everything bad there is to hear under the sun. It would be a lie to say that I don’t struggle when word like that comes and goes. But these day I think I’ve grown thicker skin. And I put in a lot of effort to. I mean, I do look a little mean. I guess it’s worse because of the way I look (Laughs).”

Since her controversial departure from Girls’ Generation last year, Jessica has for the most part taken a break from her usual activities as an entertainer and chosen to perform on a different stage altogether. She has since been working hard on her clothing brand BLANCECLARE and doesn’t plan to hit the brakes any time soon. “I plan on attending a school to formally study fashion design, although I haven’t decided on the timeline yet. For now, I’m just studying hard on my own.”

She also reveals that she has experienced a new level of autonomy and freedom, “A lot has changed from when I was in Girls’ Generation. First and foremost, I became freer. It was good when I was with the other members too, but now that I’m working alone, I’m able to spend my time more freely.” Furthermore,“If I was still a member of Girls’ Generation, I wouldn’t be able to do things like today’s photo shoot. Idol groups always have to be happy, nice, and bright. But I’m already 27 [years old] now. I can’t forever be a happy girl [...] I’m not a girl anymore. I thought that capturing the woman Jessica in the photos would be good.”

Jessica continues later in the interview, “Debuting at 19 and working until I was 25 years old, there were times when the limitations that were place on me were suffocating. Now, I’m able to make all of the decisions. It’s not bad coming to the set alone for a photo shoot like this.”

Flying solo has also forced Jessica to take an honest stock of her shortcomings, now that her members aren’t there to cover them up. “These days, I think a whole lot about myself. When I think about how I’ll be 30 in a few years, I feel weird and anxious. I don’t even really know what it is exactly that I’m anxious about. But now, more than anything else I keep thinking that I must live for myself, not for anyone else. Now that I’m alone, I have to personally take care of the deficiencies that the other members used to supplement for me. I am striving to be good at initiating conversation with people I meet for the first time and in general making people feel more comfortable around me.

“I guess when people see me they feel there is a wall [between me and them]. But I’m just not good at approaching people I’m not close to. As a result, I really have a hard time when I go to an event or awards ceremony alone. It’s like people won’t approach me unless I greet them first. I am working on slowly breaking down the walls in my personality,” she says.

Jessica reveals that during her difficult season her family has been her biggest source of support and comfort and that she recently went on vacation with her entire family, the first time she’s done so since her debut. “Whatever it is, I think after enduring a difficult time, a time of peace follows, especially when I look at how after going through hardships and a lot of time has passed, happy moments are gradually increasing [for me],” she says.

Jessica Opens Up About What Has Changed Since Leaving SNSD

--> Jessica has opened up in a remarkably candid interview since leaving Girls′ Generation (SNSD) with Marie Claire about adjusting to life on her own.

The fashion magazine unveiled photos from Jessica′s black-and-white themed spread, capturing the star′s subdued, yet sexy moments, along with the interview.

Jessica, who has been active as a designer since launching her own brand, updated readers on her life beyond idoldom.

"A lot has changed since I was in SNSD," said Jessica. "First, I have more freedom. It was nice when I was with the other members, but since I′m promoting on my own now, I can spend my time more freely."

She continued, "If I was still a SNSD member, I probably couldn′t have done a shoot like the one I shot today. Idol groups have to be happy all the time. They have to be nice, pure and bright. I′m already 27 years old. I can′t be just a happy girl forever."

Jessica also revealed how the time on her own has spurred a self improvement of sorts, "Now that I′m on my own, I think I need to fill my weak spots that the other members filled for me. I start conversations with people I′m meeting for the first time and I′m working hard to make others feel more comfortable around me."

On her future plans, Jessica shared, "I plan on going to school to study fashion design properly. I haven′t decided on an exact time yet, but I′m studying hard on my own right now. I think if you endure whatever it is you′re going through, a time of peace follows. I see that because even though I′ve been through some hard times, after time passed, there are more and more happy moments."

It’s Official: Jessica Out of SNSD

News via

20140930_seoulbeats_snsd_jessica_blanc1 Its Official: Jessica Out of SNSD Written by Gaya On September 30, 2014 The last few hours have seen much of the K-pop fandom in an uproar following news that Jessica had allegedly been unceremoniously dumped from SNSD; and now, after many hours of silence, SM Entertainment has confirmed this news. Jessica will no longer promote with SNSD, but will remain under SM while pursuing solo activities.

It all started with a Weibo update from Jessicas official account:

It was initially believed to have been the work of a hacker, especially considering the time the posts were made6AM this morning, KST. Sure, idols have to be up early for their schedules, and SNSD did have a fanmeet in China today, but would SM really be contacting their idols to say Yeah were kicking you out byeeeee that early in the morning?

That SM, along with Jessica and the rest of SNSD, would communicate that these posts were the work of a hacker seemed reasonable, and so fans waited. However, as time passed and SMs silence grew longer, fans looked to anything to confirm or disprove the Weibo posts. Perhaps Jessica or a manager would delete the posts, or the situation would be explained by the other members on their own SNS accounts.

What they got instead was every Soshi except Jessica at Incheon airport, preparing to attend their fanmeet in Nanjing. Soon, Dispatch arrived on the scene to reveal that Jessica had flown into South Korea at 4AM the morning before from New York, with boyfriend Tyler The Forehead Kwon in tow. Its said that Jessica was away on personal business, and had come back to attend the fanmeet. However, she was issued a thanks, but no thanks from SM and (apparently) the other eight members of SNSD.

Jessica will likely now focus her attention to her fashion line BlancThis business of hers was seen as one of the ways in which Jessica was preparing for her post-Soshi life just not so soon. Or on SMs terms and not her ownthough Sica at least managed to get a word in via social media before SM could say anything, likely throwing them off for a good few hours. It remains unclear exactly why SM decided to remove Jessica from the group. Going by the Weibo posts above, this did not sound like an entirely mutual decision.

With other SM idols like Yesung having their own fashion stores and labels, it would seem unfair, and unlikely, to target Jessica for starting her own; perhaps they didnt like Sica taking spending time on her personal affairs, but if its not affecting her SNSD-related engagements, then there doesnt seem to be much reason for SM to be against how she wishes to spend her time. Tyler Kwon isnt popular among many fans, but punishing Jessica like this for her taste in men also seems rather far-fetched; that said, this could be a pre-emptive measure undertaken by SM in the event that Jessica and Tyler do tie the knot, though they do not seem to be engaged right now. The only other active female idol to have married is now on hiatus and her group effectively broken up; SM may be wanting to avoid the same fate for their flagship girl group, though its difficult to say if Jessica had as much influence on SNSD as Sunye did with the Wonder Girls.

In any case, I wish Jessica all the best in her future endeavours. While she is now more or less in the same situation as Super Juniors Kibumexcept for the fact she is officially out of the groupI believe Jessica will remain relatively successful with her activities. Even if SM attempts to relegate her to the sidelines as they have done with Kibum, as a way to make an example of them to other SM idols to quash any hopes of regaining some control over their careers from the company, Jessica has been smart enough to cultivate a (perhaps modest) fanbase in China through Weibo. If no one in South Korea, including Sones, supports her, she will at least have China.

Its been a crazy day in a crazy year for K-popand SM in particular. Readers, what do you think of this sudden turn of events? What are your thoughts on SNSD continuing as eight?
