Yeon-woo (played via Han Ye-ri) is a cheery lady who has fond memories of the time she spent as a kid in her familial workshop, tinkering with bizarre stuff and just most often having a amusing time in the neighborhood. As an adult, Yeon-woo is still the similar usually cheery woman, enjoying either song and tinkering in an identical neighborhood. Then a curious crisis comes up, and Yeon-woo turns out to come to a decision that she"s no longer in reality happy.
Society can also be a sexy weird place. without reference to what we wish to do, other people can regularly feel actually insufficient just being in a position where other individuals appear more abstractly successful. Does this really count if we"re doing anything that we wish to be doing? Logically, of course, it shouldn"t. And yet Yeon-woo can"t seem to get away this elementary feeling of failure, and finally ends up resorting to a bizarrely elaborate subterfuge in order that she can feel like one of the ones those that society is meant to value.
It"s ordinary staring at Yeon-woo try and conform like this, because she"s a shockingly genuflective woman, and this is totally at odds with the sector she"s seeking to emulate. There"s this glorious shot, where she"s just taking a look out from the veranda of a tall building, and when we see Yeon-woo"s face, there"s this expression of wonder and appreciation. It"s a authentic query whether somebody else in this development has ever certainly attempted to just glance at the view before.
What precisely does Yeon-woo need anyway? Is it approval from other of us about who she is, validation that she may neatly be that ideal user if she sought after to? And if so, why is that so very important to her? When her lifestyles appears so glad at the beginning, or even after the crisis hits there are so little problems, why does she succumb to peer force from folks she doesn"t even know that well? None of those are extraordinarily tough questions, and yet the drama struggles to discover a solution to them. in huge part because for quite so much of genuine people, too, there"s no just right answer.
"Drama Special - Yeon Woo"s Summer" is an incredibly sweet, introspective appearance at a personality who, obvious nonconformist dispositions aside, is truly fairly liable to vanity problems at the behest of a global this is highly driven by social class. In one sense, yes, she is scuffling with opposed to an unfair society. yet in broader terminology, Yeon-woo is still the person who is picking up that sword and opting for to combat that battle. And really, what"s the point in going to all that problem when she may just sing a stupendous song instead?
Review by William Schwartz
"Drama Special - Yeon-woo"s Summer" is directed by Lee Na-jeong and written by Yoo Bo-ra and lines Han Ye-ri, Lim Se-mi, Han Juwan and Kim Hye-ok.
