K-pop superstar PSY is set to make his comeback this May. The “Gangnam Style” and “Gentleman” hitmaker has been confirmed to be releasing his new album with not just one but two music videos.
According to a report by Soompi, PSY originally planned to release his upcoming album in April. He even made the announcement during his concert performance in the Philippines.
However, a source from YG Entertainment recently gave an update that PSY will be releasing his new album in May instead. The source also said that PSY is busy shooting two music videos to come out with the release.
PSY’s new album marks his eighth album release after 1 years. His last album was the highly successful “Chiljip Psy-da.”
PSY’s “Gangnam Style” catapulted the K-pop icon to superstardom when the world sent his music video to one billion views. It was the first video to reach the record number, breaking even youtube’s viewing limit at the time. The “Gangnam Style” MV has since earned 2.8 billion views. PSY’s follow up single has also broken the 1 billion mark.
Aside from breaking youtube views, PSY’s ‘Gangnam Style” has also earned the artist massive popularity overseas and earned him over $40 million for sales and appearances. PSY has since joined with powerhouse label YG Entertainment and a slew of other talented artists in its stable. PSY’s album release also comes as part of YG’s scheduled release for its artists.
Before PSY’s album release, WINNER recently released their highly successful comeback album Fate Number For which relaunched the group as a quartet after the departure of lead vocalist Nam Tae Hyun. Nam Tae Hyun left the group last year after suffering from mental health issues.
After PSY’s album release, other YG artists like iKON, Hyukoh, BIG BANG;s G-Dragon and Taeyang are also set to release their solo albums. 2NE1’s CL and Sandara Park are also set to embark on their solo material this year, Naver reported.
