The rumor appears to have been started after trainee Lee In Soo (who was eliminated in the latest episode) talked during a live broadcast on AfreecaTV about his experiences on the show, and reportedly mentioned the fee.

Produce 101 Season 2 most recently aired the results of its second elimination round, in which the number of trainees was cut down to 35 based on viewer votes.
