ZE:A’s Hyungsik, Nam Jihyun, Seo Kangjun, Son Dambi, and Yoon Park confirmed to star in upcoming drama “Why Are Families Being Like This”
On Friday, July 4th (KST), it was reported that ZE:A’s Park Hyungsik, actress Nam Jihyun, and rising model and actor Seo Kangjun have all been cast for upcoming KBS2 weekend drama “Why Are Families Being Like This”!
Centered on the story of a father and his children, the father decides to change and remake the personalities of his selfish children through a last resort technique, bringing light onto their lack of litigation as well as how they take family for granted. Going more in depth into familial issues that may still resonate today, the drama is said to trigger feelings of both gratitude and apology within its viewers, showing realistic aspects that will be easy to relate to.
Hyungsik is to take the role of Cha Dalbong, a dense-blooded youth who has absolutely no future plans in mind and makes a mess wherever he goes in the meantime. Though he may be a nuisance in the Cha household, he is also said to be very understanding and kind. Cha Dalbong regards others’ problems and worries as his, and this one selfless trait becomes his trademark later in the show, raising much anticipation for how Hyungsik will express this personality, as well as his evolving change.
Meanwhile, Nam Jihyun will be portraying a character named Kang Seowool, who is imprudent with lots of nerve, yet unstoppable as she possesses a pure soul. Setting out on a haphazard pursuit to find a Seoul boy who had saved her life twelve years ago, Nam Jihyun will express a female youth that ‘doesn’t know anything else but love.’ However, Kang Seowool is also expected to be absolutely positive in all things. As there are no remaining clues pertaining to Kang Seowool’s story, fans could only wonder who her savior is, as well as if he is any one of the male protagonists cast in the drama.
Last but not least, Seo Kangjun is planned to portray Yoon Eunho, a ‘sweet guy’ with both manners and wit. Having operated a restaurant successfully thus far, he has chosen to merely enjoy life like this. Due to being born in a dominant family line, he has been seen as a ‘mom’s friends’ son’ – someone deserving of much respect and bragging. In Korean culture, youth who are the top of everything are referred to by this concept, as traditionally, mothers are known to see others’ sons as better than their own. Thus, Yoon Eunho has received all that he has needed without much effort so far. However, once he meets Kang Seowool, he can’t help but constantly be interested in her. Slowly, in this way, his whimsical life evolves into one that is more serious.
Overall, as all three characters’ lives once clashed twelve years ago, they are set to clash again in this present setting, as meetings and connections will make this family drama worthwhile to watch.
Regarding their roles, Park Hyungsik, Nam Jihyun, and Seo Kangjun commented that they were beyond thankful to both the director and writers, and were grateful to have an opportunity to work with older, extremely talented sunbaes. Stating that they will put their utmost effort into their respective roles, the three asked for much support and love from their fans for the upcoming love story.
The following day on Saturday, July 5th (KST), Hyungsik uploaded a photo of himself on his way to prepare for the weekend drama, with a content smile on his face. Netizens took note of his clear white skin and casual demeanor, as well as the fan that reads “Park Hyungsik is love.” Stating on his personal Twitter, “Preparing for my drama. I will confidently show you [my acting] soon. Whenever I ride in my car, the fan that I see every day. I love all of you as well. I am always thankful,” Hyungsik made sure to express as much thanks as possible prior to becoming busy once again.
It was also revealed that Son Dambi and Yoon Park will be making appearances on “Why Are Families Being Like This” as a star-studded couple. Son Dambi will portray the role of a beautiful, intelligent food stylist named Kwon Hyojin, who has never known hardships or the challenges of making choices. As she was born to a wealthy doctor, even her marriage was, to her, completely up to him.
Meanwhile, Yoon Park will act as Cha Kangjae, a cool-headed stomach cancer specialist who believes that his family is a nuisance. Filled with a selfish heart like the rest of the Kang family, he knows nothing except medical knowledge. Both he and his supposed pairing Kwon Hyojin will thus be experts in their fields as well as critical thinking, but maybe not so much in love and truly living for oneself.
Regarding their roles, Son Dambi as well as Yoon Park expressed their gratitude and determination for the upcoming production, and made sure to credit their fellow sunbaes who were cast alongside them. Particularly for Son Dambi, this will be her comeback in acting following a two-year hiatus. On the other hand, Yoon Park recently finished up starring in “Good Doctor.”
“Why Are Families Being Like This” is set to be released on Saturday, August 16th at 7:55 PM (KST), so make sure to catch the first episode!
