Following the release of their album cover, individual teasers of Ren, Aron, Minhyun, Baekho and JR, and a group teaser image, NU’EST has uploaded additional individual images, each with a couple of songs that will make up the complete track-list for “Re:BIRTH.”
Leader JR has been introduced first. JR continues to sport his blonde hair, though now bangs have also been added. The white clothing that previously appeared in their album cover is back, and contrasts strongly against the mysterious black masks and clothing that the people enshrouding him are wearing.
Above reads the first song of their album, “Judgement,” along with a simple caption that reads, “Don’t [you] dare pout [about the] results, what you need [to do is to stop] begging me.”
Though the words are rather scattered, the overall sentence suggests a powerful song against the concept of judgment, and standing up on one’s own feet despite opposition, which JR reflects clearly in his photo.
On the other hand, while Baekho stands alone, his eyes are closed in submission, and he is coated in black-and-white. Above shows two more songs that belong in the album, “Big Deal” and “Good Bye Bye.” The first caption reads, “Whether you know or I do, I will survive until the end.” The second caption also reads, “Good bye baby, even if without you I close my eyes every day.”
Minhyun’s version of the track-list images resembles more of leader JR’s image; it includes a full-body shot of him against black surroundings and black-masked people. This time, however, Minhyun is standing alone and strong amidst the oppressive forces that are now kneeling down, submissive.
Above reads the next two songs to be added to their first full-length album. Number four reads, “Love that doesn’t have Love,” along with the caption, “I ate food with another girl yesterday.”
In addition, number five is simply called “Storybook,” and is joined with, “I think my heart is dancing.”
Again, NU’EST promises much variety in their album; while one song points out a different, flawed kind of romance in comparison to Baekho’s image that showed song number three, “Good Bye Bye,” which leans towards describing a sad loss
Track number five, however, is more like song number two, “Big Deal,” and JR’s tracklist “Judgment.” All three point towards victory amidst trepidation, and it almost seems like a process as, after conflict and growing confidence, Minhyun’s image proudly states the triumphant end result.
Next is Aron, who is in the same pose as Baekho, save that in this image, he appears more at peace. Song number six is “CLIMAX,” which reads, “Like time has frozen, my breath fills up all the way to my chin.” This excerpt evidently points towards another intense song, though whether it’s due to a lover or intense competition, one could only guess.
Song number seven, “Lend Me Your Shoulder,” has written below, “For giving me a shoulder, that’s what L.O.Ʌ.E.’s about.” In other words, NU’EST hasn’t forgotten to thank their fans, and decided to dedicate an entire song for all L.O.Ʌ.E.’s that have supported the group this far. Aron’s image credits their support and also requests for fans’ continuous support and interest throughout NU’EST’s future albums and performances.
The fifth image came as a surprise. What people might have guessed would be Ren’s track-list image was actually a jeweled, smiling mask that resemble “Hahoetal” masks – traditional Korean wooden masks that, based on the artist, expresses intense eye smiles or the most sorrowful expressions. The jewels add a modern touch, then, as well as the complacent smile that sits in the middle of the “Hahoetal” mask’s extremes. Up on the left corner, however, lists some previous songs that will reappear in this brand new album: “FACE,” “Action,” “Hello,” and “Rot.” This then suggests that the image literally represents tradition intermixing with new creation within NU’EST’s upcoming comeback album.
And lastly, Ren’s image resembles JR and Minhyun’s structure, though again it sends a different message. He appears free, but towards the bottom, viewers can see he is indeed trapped as the black-masked men admiringly cling onto him. The last song his image reveals is a bonus track titled “Hey, Love.” The short caption below reads, “With what words should I express my feelings.” Ren is trapped with his thoughts, as well as his outside environment filled with spectators that are preventing him from showing his heart to his true love.
The variety included in these individual tracklist photos suggest that the album will showcase numerous genres that NU’EST has sought to improve upon for their fans. Alternating from self-discovery to romance, the five-member group promises a wide range of songs for listeners to enjoy and perhaps learn from.
NU’EST will hold a showcase for their first album, which will be held on Wednesday, July 9th at 7:00 PM within the YES24 MUV Hall in Seoul. However, fans will have to compete for a spot through a contest that their agency, Pledis Entertainment, has made for all of their fans.
