SHINee Key and Taemin Become High School Girls in Hilarious Film Parody on “SNL Korea”

The recent episode of tvN’s “SNL Korea” aired on May 30, and featured as guests the members of SHINee.

Members Key andbrieflyTaemin tap into their inner high school girls for a hilarious parody, called Eun Gyu, of the 2012 film “Eun Gyo,” in which a high school girl becomes the object of desire of a 70-year-old poet and his pupil.

Naturally, the 70-year-old poet is played by Shin Dong Yup in the skit, utterly captivated by Key’s feminine wiles.

When Key offers Shin Dong Yup a handkerchief to wipe his sweat, he makes an excuse, “It’s because I don’t have any energy, but could you wipe my sweat for me?”

He later says, “I don’t why, but my chest and armpit area keeps sweating, too. Could you clean that part for me too?”

Shin Dong Yup tries to move it lower, saying he has a sweaty groin…

Key later asks Shin Dong Yup to read him a poem. When Key hears the poem, hes overtaken with awe, and gives Shin Dong Yup a hug from behind, saying, Youre such a romantic! But the Shin Dong Yup gets suspicious Do you have something in your pocket?!

Brown Eyed Girls

Brown Eyed Girls" Ga In admits she"s a terrible actress on "I"m Going to School"

Brown Eyed Girls

Brown Eyed Girls" Ga In may look like a "tough unni" on the outside with her bob cut and thick eyeliner, but she"s actually a humble sweetheart as she revealed her personality in her first appearance on "I"m Going to School".

On the April 14th episode of JTBC"s "I"m Going to School", Ga In introduced herself to the class, showing her blunt and honest personality. She said, "I"m 29 years old. I"m a terrible actress. If there"s something I don"t know, don"t insult me because I"d like you to teach me instead."

Ga In hilariously treated the male and female students differently as she told her classmates, "If you"re a boy, call me nuna. If you"re a girl, just call me "hey you"." During the camera test, the teacher told Ga In, "If there"s a type of acting you"re good at, try it." She honestly replied, "I acted in movies before, but I heard that I had "foot acting." So there isn"t a type of acting I"m good at."

As you might have already guessed, "foot acting" means bad acting as in having the emotional range of a foot (none at all). Ga In had a leading role in the 2013 film "The Huntresses", which makes us wonder if that"s the role she was criticized for.

Do you think Ga In has "foot acting" or is she a better actress than what she gives herself credit for?

[HanCinema"s Drama Review] "Seonam Girls High School Investigators"

It is important for any work to fit the audiences it touches and speaks about. It also needs to have a style that fits its stories and fleshes them out while maintaining its tone. The drama is incredibly successful at this, by being true to its young characters and their stories, but also animated, quirky and upbeat. There are heavy issues handled here and while there are the occasional problems in how they are handled, the show dares to do so and does it in an entertaining and honest way.

The drama"s characters and stories, both main and guest remain faithful to the show"s focus, which is the troubles teenage women face in life and school. From teenage pregnancy to homosexuality, a topic for which the series even made global news, the creators do not shy away from covering a wide range of personal and group problems and making bold statements. This willingness to go where few dramas have gone before makes it an admirable and fresh effort for South Korean television. Additionally, its presentation of the mysteries is fun to watch.

The courage of the creators as well as their work are of course worthy of respect. That said, the drama sometimes refrains from going all the way with its cases. Some aspects feel very half-baked and some outcomes overly positive. Not everything in life gets wrapped up in a pretty bow and showing how teenagers cope or could cope with less desirable outcomes would have been educational and more realistic. The show also has its plot holes and some mysteries are too easy to figure out.

This problem extends to how deeply the cases are covered. With some, the creators take a more daring stance, while they seem cautious with others. While some are explored with nuance and attention to detail, some are barely touched upon and this goes both for the stories and the potential messages that are to be conveyed through them. The main plot has its problems too, including a slightly clumsy wrap-up for which the show being cut short is likely responsible.

Depending on one"s personal opinions on the topics explored, "Seonam Girls High School Investigators" can range from satisfying to frustrating. However, the fact that the show bravely handles the subjects that it does and creates this involvement is something to praise. Despite some problems, its memorable characters and fun, youthful presentation make it an entertaining experience. More importantly, its unique nature, focus and approach make it an important work for the medium and an example to follow for improving representation and the diversity of Korean drama.
