Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2014 – April Week 3

A Pink’s “Mr. Chu” comes from outside of the top 10 and moves up 16 spots to become our new No. 1 song this week!

This song swept all the music shows last week and easily won over Lee Sun Hee’s “Meet Him Among Them.” Orange Caramel’s “Catallena” rounds out the all female top three this week.

“Mr. Chu” is the title track of A Pink’s 4th mini album, “Pink Blossom.” It is a cute pop dance song about the thrill of sharing the first kiss with one’s significant other. The various synth effects and the upbeat rhythm highlight the sweet and lovable qualities of A Pink. This is A Pink’s second No. 1 song on our chart as they did it last year with “NoNoNo.” Congratulations to A Pink.

Thursday Night Dramas Were Scheduled Then Cancelled

Although two of the major broadcasters in Korea scheduled dramas for Thursday night, hoping to catch up on Wednesday night"s missed programming, they ultimately decided against it. The networks cancelled the night"s dramas and instead expanded news coverage of the Jindo ferry disaster.

Shows that focused on singing and comedy seemed especially inappropriate given that the terrible events have plunged the nation into mourning.

The disaster took place when a ferry capsized on its way to Jeju Island. Most of the passengers were students on a field trip.

According to the South Korean Coast Guard, so far 179 of the ferry"s passengers have been rescued and 25 bodies have been recovered. Another 271 passengers are still missing and, despite ongoing rescue efforts, time may be running out for them

It looks like the music industry will be "on hold" at least until end of this week.

Currently, only the cancellation of Mnet "M! Countdown" and KBS "Music Bank" have been confirmed but viewers are expecting MBC and SBS to find it unfitting to air their music programs as well. Even if they do decide to put on the shows, there is a big possibility that the singers will be reluctant to perform.

When the first cancellation issue came up yesterday, it was due to the condolences that everyone was sending to the victims of the Korean ferry sinking incident. One representative said, "Until now, whenever incidents happened, the music industry always had a big effect. But this time, the situation is a lot worse so we only find it natural for us to stop our activity for now

Broadcasting companies adjust schedules for their respective programs to pay off respect and condolences for the Sewol Ferry Tragedy

Due to the incident occurred on April 16, the Sewol Ferry Tragedy, broadcasting companies such as KBS, SBS and MBC and along with the entertainment programs, adjust their broadcasting schedules to pay off respect and condolences.

Today, April 18, Music Bank has been cancelled to air. On the 19th and 20th of April, where Channel A’s drama Immortal Classic, MBC’s Happy Sunday and KBS2’s Gag Concert are scheduled to air, the officials of the respective programs are still gathered for a meeting regarding the broadcasting time.

EXO’s Comeback – An Introduction To Their Growth

Mainstream group EXO has come back more intense than ever. Their performance is more lively, and they"ve shed their boy image for a more powerful masculine image. It just proves as evidence that EXO has grown once again.

On April 15th EXO held their "EXO Comeback Show" at the Jamsil Gymnasium in Seoul. At the comeback show they unveiled their first performance of their 2nd mini album"s "Overdose". It was powerful, and showcased choreography that was even more advanced than that of "Growl."

At this comeback show, EXO not only unveiled their performance for "Overdose" for the first time, but they also showed the music video. "Overdose" is a hip hop and R&B based dance song with an urban feel. It was produced by world renowned producing team The Underdogs, who previously worked with top pop stars such as Beyonce, Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake, and others

All Music Shows Canceled This Week, Affecting Comeback Stages of Block B, EXO, and More

All weekly music shows from the various TV networks have been canceled this week starting today due to the Sewol Ferry tragedy that shook the nation yesterday.

Thursday’s (April 17 KST) music show from Mnet, “M!Countdown,” Friday’s (April 18 KST) music show from KBS, “Music Bank,” Saturday’s (April 19 KST) music show from MBC, “Music Core,” and Sunday’s (April 20 KST) music show from SBS, “Inkigayo,” have been canceled.

The cancellation of these various music shows affects the promotion schedules of many singers in the industry, as well as reflecting the desires of the artists to defer promotions out of respect for the hundreds of victim of the ferry tragedy. Some of the comebacks affected are from singer Kim Jin Ho of SG Wannabe, Lena Park, Block B, EXO, and Junggigo

On April 16th, a ferry carrying 459 people, mostly high school students on a trip to Jeju island, sank off South Korea's southern coast, leaving nearly 300 people missing, 7 people dead and 55 injured.
Due to the big disaster, all the entertainment programs, dramas as well as comeback schedules of many artists have been delayed to show respects for the victims.
KBS1's programs: "Secret of Birth" ,"Real Experience of The World" and the drama "Love through Song" was postponed .
KBS2's music program "Music Bank" planned to air on the 18th was canceled. However, drama "Golden Cross" and "Palpitating Romance" will air as scheduled.
MBC's programs "Zero" ,"Shining Romance" ,"Mother's Garden" ,"The Real Story" ,"Radio Star" had been delayed

South Korean Entertainment Industry Halts Programming And Events In Wake Of Ferry Tragedy

A day after the a South Korean ferry carrying hundreds of people sank 11 miles off the country"s coast, the Korean Entertainment industry has decided to halt programming and schedules while the search continues for the 290 missing passengers.

Shock and horror has rattled the nation as citizens mourn one of the most tragic peacetime disasters in recent South Korean history.The ferry, bound for the southern island of Jeju, sank on Wednesday carrying 475 people, including 325 students and 14 teachers from Danwon High School, only 170 of whom have been accounted for so far.

In light of recent events, many major players in the Korean entertainment industry have put their schedules on hold as rescue efforts continue.

With the majority of South Korean broadcast networks focusing on the incident and its aftermath, entertainment programming will be cancelled for at least the next few days

All dramas and shows cancelled due to sinking ship

All entertainment shows and dramas were cancelled in expression of mourning the victims of the passenger ship that sank in Jindo on the 16th.

KBS1 broadcasted newsbreaks from 10AM onwards until 1:10AM on the 17th. "Secret of Birth", "Real Experience of The World" and daily drama "Love Rides the Song" were all cancelled.

KBS2 decided to cancel the broadcast of "Music Bank" on the 18th. However, dramas "Golden Cross" and pilot program "Palpitating Romance" will go on as usual.

MBC also broadcasted newsbreaks from 6:20PM to 10PM. "Zero", "Shining Romance", "Mother's Garden", "Real Story", "Radio Star" and everything else were cancelled. SBS cancelled "TV News At Night" and broadcasted 2 straight hours of newsbreaks.

Meanwhile, JTBC news anchor Park Jin-gyu made a mistake while reporting the accident and has been criticized

EXO Comes Back And Dominates As Expected

EXO came back to the K-Pop scene and showed off their efforts via a "Comeback Show".

The "Comeback Show" was held in Seoul"s Jamsil Stadium on April 15th to showcase EXO"s second mini-album, "Overdose." Broadcaster Jun Hyun Moo was the MC of the event. Some 8,000 fans, both Korean and international, gathered for the event. Thousands more were outside the stadium.

Screams filled the stadium as EXO entered the stadium, and the chill of the cool spring night was gone in an instant. White glowsticks filled the air as EXO performed "Wolf" after a brief introduction video. They continued right after with "History". Their performance and their song worked perfectly together.

EXO members then engaged the fans to say their welcome. Xiumin greeted the fans personally, and Chen asked the fans to cheer them on
