Kim Ok-bin seems convincing as a genuine hardboiled action star in her latest film “The Villainess”, which opened at local theaters on Thursday.
The film was invited to the Midnight Screening section of this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where it was sold to 136 countries and interest in a remake was high among Hollywood producers.
Kim plays the lead role, a woman who was raised to be a killer and embarks on a vendetta after discovering a plot against her.
“After being offered the role, I accepted it almost immediately. I didn’t have to think about it too long, because I love physical activity and I had been yearning to do an action movie. I was scheduled for two months of physical training, but the start date was delayed so I ended up training for three-and-a-half months”, Kim said.
“I didn’t want to disappoint viewers with sub-par action scenes. I wanted to do it right. It was immensely satisfying, once it was over. The film is rated “R”. but, I hope it attracts at least 2 million viewers. I want my next project to be an action movie too. It would be a shame to waste my action-school training!” she said.
