The Stars Who Parodied Girls’ Generation

One of the key signs that someone has made it big is when other people (celebs included) try to imitate them.

And one of the most parodied girl groups in K-Pop is none other than Girls’ Generation (SNSD), which undoubtedly reflects its popularity and influence across the entertainment industry.

There are probably many more SNSD parodies out there, but here are just a few of our favorites, as we celebrate the girls as our Star of the Week. If you know of any other parodies to not be missed, let us know in the comment section below!

[First Impressions] "1 Night 2 Days" Season 3 – Giving An Old Dog A Fresh Coat Of Paint

Disclaimer: The writer is not really an expert at anything much and is just a mere casual fan of “1 Night 2 Days.” The writer has been known to be rather weird and cynical at times. The writer’s opinions certainly DO NOT reflect the opinion of Soompi’s news team or Soompi as a whole.

I don’t tend to do a lot of these first impression articles. Variety Shows like “1 Night 2 Days” always tend to be slow burners and judging the merits of a show on a single episode is always bound to be a rather futile effort. It’s like looking at a new born baby and instantly saying that said baby will grow up to be a super model, get it wrong and you end up looking like a bit of a fool. Get it right, though, and you just look like a very lucky fool. But this is the internet and if there is one mode of communication that allows me to blabber randomly about something I’m interested in then this is it

He concluded by saying, “I think the reason that I’m maintaining my youthfulness is because I’m working together with idols and other young stars

Things Not Made to Last: Short-Lived Variety Shows

Things Not Made to Last: Short-Lived Variety Shows

A staple of Korean entertainment has always been its variety television. Korea has produced some great variety, such as X-Man, Family Outing, and Infinite Challenge. But, lately it’s been suffering and slight attention to news will show a rising trend of variety and talk shows premiering, then soon being cancelled. Recently it was officially reported that the brand new Star Diving Show “Splash!” was officially cancelled due to its high injury rate.

There is a recurring problem happening within Korean variety, but maybe looking back at some recent failures will give us some ideas on how Korean variety can get back on its feet.

HyunA Says Beast's Dongwoon "Drooled While Watching Narsha Perform"

On September 16, the Brown Eyed Girls were guests on the tvN‘s “Taxi.” The girls opened up about their beginning as a faceless group nicknamed, “Little Big Mama” for their vocal talent and also talked about their sexy transformation over the years.

When asked to vote for the sexiest member of their group, the members chose Narsha without hesitation.

At this, Narsha said, “Our fans probably already know about this, but in the past I used to appear on ‘Invincible Youth‘ with 4Minute‘s HyunA. She told me at one point that ‘BEAST‘s youngest member Dongwoon was drooling while watching [me] perform on stage

“Global Farm Experience” – Visiting Korea’s Farming Villages with Inditravel

Farming village experience tours are new kind of themed travel growing in popularity in Korea. Unlike typical city tours, the tours offer travelers hands-on experience on a Korean farm and have caught the attention of overseas visitors in particular thanks to the Korean Wave.

Inspired by popular TV shows such as "Family Outing", "One Night, Two Days" and "Invincible Youth" that feature celebrities experiencing life on a farm, overseas fans of the Korean Wave have started to visit villages featured in the shows. And when they arrive, they want a hands-on experience just like the stars.

Building on that momentum, local governments, major travel agencies and a number of young CEOs started to organize experience tour programs

1 Night 2 Days: Season 2 and the Pitfalls of Variety Show Sequels

1 Night 2 Days: Season 2 and the Pitfalls of Variety Show Sequels

Admittedly, compared to its fellow contemporary and longtime rival Running Man, the renowned variety show 1 Night 2 Days doesn’t get as much love from international fans. While the show still has a sizable overseas fanbase, its popularity mostly circulates domestically in Korea rather than internationally. While this somewhat unfortunate fact is a little blatant, the show’s popularity in Korea really is still a force to be reckoned with. Once upon a time during its prime, the show’s ratings were floating comfortably around the forty percent range, a truly remarkable feat for a variety show. 1N2D consistently dominated its timeslot, easily beating the more internationally-popular Running Man with a pretty significant margin.

Another laudable aspect of the show is its longevity

A Wide Spectrum: "Real Men" and Reality-Variety Television

A Wide Spectrum: “Real Men” and Reality-Variety Television

SBS recently announced a new variety program scheduled to hit the airwaves this fall. Named Beating Hearts, the new show will thrust its cast into the world of firefighting, documenting them as they undergo the process and training needed to be firefighters.

While still relatively early in its conception, the confirmed cast members so far include Park Ki-woong, Lee Won-jong, Jo Dong-hyuk, Choi Woo-shik, and sole female member Jeon Hye-bin. While only a pilot of two episodes has been reserved, the show prides itself as a “reality-variety” program, promising to bring the charm of variety television and the rawness of reality television.

From the description alone, the show seems like a SBS’s thinly veiled answer to the huge success that was MBC’s Real Men
