iKON Draws Criticism Following Poor Performance On Korean Music Charts

iKON has just dropped its comeback album “New Kids” with their double tracks “Bling Bling” and “B-Day”. Amid the euphoria, people on multiple online communities criticized the group for having poor performance on music charts, considering the group is from the label of major artists who usually topped local music charts.

Allkpop has gathered netizens’ responses following iKON’s performance on several music charts. Their newest release “Bling Bling” and “B-Day” topped real-time search on Olleh Music. However, on May 24, the tracks went down to number 66 and 86 respectively.

While ranking within the top 100 is considered a success, the case of iKON is perceived differently since the group is from a major label, YG Entertainment. Many people see iKON as a failure following their recent poor performance.

Other YG artists like WINNER and Psy have done remarkably well with their latest release. Psy even achieved all-kills with his new tracks “I Luv It” and “New Face”, which were released earlier this month.

Sports DongA argued that iKON’s poor performance is caused by the lack of promotions and the quality of its music lately. The media claimed that iKON may have achieved a better outcome if it focused more on domestic promotions. All in all, the poor quality of iKON’s new tracks is enough reason why the group isn’t doing well on charts.

Meanwhile, Soompi reported iKON will be making their comeback stage on “Music Core” on May 27. YG Entertainment stated that the group will be performing “Bling Bling” and “B-Day”.

On their recent V-Live broadcast, the members shared what kind of variety shows they’d like to star in and their thoughts on the comeback promotions. In addition to “Music Core”, iKON is set to appear on “Weekly Idol”. The members reportedly will start filming on May 31. If it confirmed, it will be the first time the group stars in a popular variety show.
