Kim Gura Calls Out on IU’s Lacking Explanation on Twitter Scandal

On August 22, Kim Gura called out singer IU on JTBC‘s “War of Words” for her hedging any questions about her Twitter scandal with Super Junior‘s Eunhyuk on her latest appearance on “Hwashin.”

He explained, “We didn’t want to hear IU just say, ‘It was a mistake.’ After postponing appearances on talk shows for so long, coming out and saying ‘I made a mistake’ was not enough. The viewers didn’t want to know the reason why she uploaded the photo on Twitter, but instead wanted to know what exactly the relationship between the two stars was. Of course, I did try to ask her about their relationship, but she flatly refused to talk about the issue further

1 Night 2 Days: Season 2 and the Pitfalls of Variety Show Sequels

1 Night 2 Days: Season 2 and the Pitfalls of Variety Show Sequels

Admittedly, compared to its fellow contemporary and longtime rival Running Man, the renowned variety show 1 Night 2 Days doesn’t get as much love from international fans. While the show still has a sizable overseas fanbase, its popularity mostly circulates domestically in Korea rather than internationally. While this somewhat unfortunate fact is a little blatant, the show’s popularity in Korea really is still a force to be reckoned with. Once upon a time during its prime, the show’s ratings were floating comfortably around the forty percent range, a truly remarkable feat for a variety show. 1N2D consistently dominated its timeslot, easily beating the more internationally-popular Running Man with a pretty significant margin.

Another laudable aspect of the show is its longevity

Check out K-fashion at Dongdaemun fashion show

The stereotype that all fashion shows are only for expensive brands will be broken at a new style of fashion show in Dongdaemun, the spot well-known for shopping among fashionistas.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) and the Council of Fashion Designers of Korea (CFDK) are co-hosting a series of fashion shows every Saturday on the fifth floor of LOTTE FITIN.

Under the theme "Enjoy small luxury with fashion designers", this Saturday fashion parade will offer more than just new designs. This will be a good option for customers looking for something trendy but inexpensive to get the whole picture of Korea's fashion trends.

Jo Kwon Under Fire for "Superstar K5" Remarks, Han Kyung Il Responds

2AM’s Jo Kwon appeared as a guest judge for the August 23 episode of the Mnet survival audition show “Super Star K5” , and his critique of one of the contestants drew ire from some members of the public. The contestant was no other than a senior artist in the Korean music industry Han Kyung Il. Using his real name of Park Jae Han, the singer performed in front of Lee Seung Chul, Hyun Mi, and Jo Kwon. Jo Kwon, not recognizing his senior artist, said to him “It’s not that you can’t sing well, but your singing was a bit greasy. Truthfully, there are a lot of people who sing as well as you; even in noraebangs, there is always someone as good as you. I have to think hard about this…but I wasn’t moved today. You didn’t leave an impression

Big In Japan: Distinction vs. Assimilation

Big In Japan: Distinction vs. Assimilation

They say “when in Rome, do as the Romans do.” When promoting in Japan, some K-pop artists keep that age old adage in mind, channeling their inner Tokyoites and creating music that sounds like what plays in the crowded shops of Harajuku and the closing credits of InuYasha; whereas others stick to what they know, essentially releasing K-pop in Japanese. It begs a few questions: who uses what approach and which one is the best?

KARA must have had a Pixy Stick or 10 before recording their 2011 Japanese single, “Go Go Summer.” This uptempo Eurobeat track is sugary sweet and hyperactive, a combination oh so common in J-pop. One listen and you’re feeling the phantom sweat from a spirited Dance Dance Revolution session: it would be at least a standard-level challenge
