G-Dragon revealed to have filmed his new “UNTITLED” MV in under an hour

Following G-Dragon’s much-anticipated return with his new solo album ‘Kwon Ji Yong,’ YG Entertainment revealed some behind-the-scenes stories while filming “UNTITLED.”

Director Han Sa Min was in charge of directing G-Dragon’s “UNTITLED” MV who had previously worked with Big Bang and G-Dragon before.

In order to fully express the sentimental and sorrowful lyrics depicted in the song, director Han Sa Min decided to use simple and natural aesthetics instead of a fancy set with bright lighting.  He also wanted to focus on G-Dragon’s facial expressions and gestures geared towards “UNTITLED” with mostly close-up shots.

The original plan was to obtain as much footage from various scenes as well as switching from set designs which the director would then choose the best cuts from.

However, things turned out to be quite the opposite as G-Dragon was able to wrap up the shooting in just under an hour, marking it as the music video with the shortest duration of recording time in Big Bang’s history!

What’s even more surprising is the fact that it takes several hours to film an MV sometimes even extending up to 2-3 days, making this a very rare occasion.

The cameras rolled the entire time, filming G-Dragon all in one take until the director shouted “cut” towards the end of the song.

As soon as the first take was over, the director commented, “There’s no need to continue shooting. Although there are some sets prepared for tomorrow I don’t find it necessary to film anymore,” satisfied with the overall progress and filmed only 2-3 additional footages and wrapped up the set.

He also liked the idea of using the first take for the final music video since it was so good without any editing.

The ‘One Take’ method consists of the cameras rolling live the entire time without any breaks in between as well as omitting any in-camera editing.  This can be quite a tedious process for the cameraman as he would have to start shooting all over again from the beginning if any mistake or error was made.

G-Dragon was praised for his superb acting on set by the director and staff making this album even more meaningful to fans.
