Drama Review Whisper Episode 6

With the addition of time to the list of everything going against Yeong-joo's efforts in"Whisper", our heroine is stuck in limbo as our antagonists play their little games. Il-hwan wants to cut Yoo-taek off from Taebaek, but his frienemy has quite the hefty request in return. Meanwhile Jeong-il and Soo-yeon are trapped between their families and rely on a very important document, which becomes an item currently desired by all.

There is a slight development happening in this episode with characters mostly left blank so far. It is not much, but I will take what I can get in a series I find lacking. Yeong-joo's (Lee Bo-young) parents have their moments and I love the line about believing in justice and a fair world being a superstition. It is a very real, very gut-wrenching thing to hear from someone who has lost all hope in the systems which are supposed to protect them.

Drama Review Saimdang: Lights Diary Episode 23

While "Saimdang: Light's Diary" has always suffered from direct comparison to the also currently airing"Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People", the timing this week is especially unfortunate. The latter drama just explicitly made a point about how proper representation of women in the arts is a completely meaningless victory in the context of a political situation so bad that people are actively being murdered. As a result, the plot in "Saimdang: Light's Diary" about Saimdang heroically striking a blow for women everywhere by painting the king's portrait just comes off as really awkward.

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Tunnel - Drama" Episode 8

Grab a hanky and brace for a very personal, very emotional episode of "Tunnel - Drama". Seon-jae can no longer doubt Gwang-ho's identity and so our in-the-know duo becomes a trio. In the process of wrapping up a new case, Gwang-ho picks up on Yeon-sook's trail and finally gets to know her fate. Meanwhile, Jae-i notices the change of M.O in the serial killings just as Jeong Ho-yeong begins again, a decision which seems to be related to Seon-jae's contact with him.

Yeon-sook's (Lee Si-ah) fate being morbid is something I had been expecting ever since we saw hints of her child in Jae-i (Lee Yoo-young) and since Seong-sik's (Jo Hee-bong) original search. While we know that Gwang-ho's (Choi Jin-hyuk) return to the past can change it, this does not lessen the dramatic value of her death. That is because our hero's pain and his existential conundrum are still very real things in his life right now.

Drama Review Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People Episode 22

Gil-dong is still going through the wringer as"Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People"makes the most of its runtime to show that our noble hero is suffering with little to no apparent hope and sight. What's worse, the people suffer with him. King Yeonsangun shows off a nasty sadistic streak, not just by bullying Gil-dong in person, but also by showing off to Gil-dong all the people he can't protect. Which of course includes more gratutitous crying infants.

"Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People"can get pretty amazingly goofy at times- there's no denying that. About the only thing keeping King Yeonsangun palatable as a character is the twisted consistency of his logic. King Yeonsangun seems to have decided that the reason why people like Gil-dong is because Gil-dong is really strong. Ergo, by beating Gil-dong up in a fight, King Yeonsangun can earn their love as well.
