Needless to say, 2012 brought to K-pop plenty of quality debuts. From B.A.P, EXO, Ailee, Lee Hi, BTOB and Vixx, they have risen above expectations this year to further rise among the tiers of idoldom. The latest of Batch 2012 to try and capture the general audiences attention is Nu’est.
Debuting with “Face,” it seemed that Nu’est had the promise to be something. Tackling bullying in their debut song and coupling it with choreography that had interesting elements, the boys from Pledis Entertainment seemed to be faring well in terms of debut material. They continued their momentum with “Action” which was quite a showstopper and a step up from “Face
2012 saw the emergence of a very notable rookie groups and artists. From boy bands such as B.A.P. and Exo, to soloists like Ailee, the 2012 group surely caught everyone’s eye, for better or for worse. Compared to last year’s extraordinary set of debuts, 2013 has been relatively short. However, one of the more notable rookies of the year is definitely Ladies’ Code. Despite debuting only relatively recently, the group has gathered decent momentum. As the girls are currently prepping for a comeback, they recently put out a pre-release track “Hate You” to add momentum for their pending return.
To be honest, I am somewhat relieved that “Hate You” is only a pre-release track
This week on MBC’s “Show Champion,” A Pink took the win with “No No No.” This is the group’s second ever music show win! Their previous and only other win was with “My My” in early 2012. Congratulations to the girls on their comeback!

EXO, B1A4‘Number One on Music Shows’ Which Idols Have Never Won?
With three major networks and two cable networks, there are a total of five music shows with rankings. EXO hoisted their first trophy for the first time since their debut, while B1A4 did the same in two years since debut.
Which idol groups have never taken a winning trophy home?
Among popular groups that have been around for around two years, there are MBLAQ and Rainbow.
MBLAQ took the number one spot with "Y" and "It's War" back in 2010 and 2012 but they were both on cable networks. They have yet to win one on a major network show. Rainbow, on the other hand, has never taken the number one place on any music shows.
With Sistar, After School, EXO and Ivy sailing smoothly, it remains a tough challenge for MBLAQ and Rainbow to take a shot at the trophy
EXO, INFINITE, Big Bang, After School, Davichi, Girls Generation, TVXQ, miss A, CNBLUE, Lee Hi, U-KISSEXO won their first music show, Music Bank, on June 14
This past week EXO won their first music show since their debut, and the news brought the 12 members to tears on stage.
On Friday, June 14 the combined twelve-member boy band EXO joined the list of K-Pop idols who have taken the number one spot on a live music show in South Korea with their song "Wolf."
From their debut on April 8, 2012 with the song "Mama" to their latest single's win on KBS's Music Bank last week, EXO had been working hard for 432 days. And just how does that timeline match up with other K-Pop idol groups?
At well over the one year mark, and around the same time frame as EXO, are INFINITE who got their first win on M! Countdown on September 1, 2011 for the album Paradise 488 days after their initial debut
EXO′s album XOXO (Kiss & Hug) managed to top various album charts including those of Hanteo and Hottracks.
The album previously drew attention for receiving 300,000 preorders.
Both versions of the album, ′Kiss′ and ′Hug′, appeared on the top two ranks. The group′s debut album MAMA, which was released on April 2012, also reappeared on the charts.
Online, tracks from the album, including the promotional single Wolf, could be seen in the top ranks of various music charts on the day of the album′s release.

The biggest news of the week in K-pop is hands down the announcement of Exo’s long awaited come back. It’s been more than a year since SM Entertainment’s wonder rookies debuted in April 2012 and at least they’re coming back with a full album, XOXO. You gotta hand it to SM though, I’ve never seen another rookie group get so much hype so fast and still be relevant after only releasing one EP. And it’s been fun (and crazy and sometimes scary) as Exo fans got ‘creative’ to fill in the void. Here’s to hoping the wait will have been worth it.
