Facial images of three global figures, President Putin, Samsung's Chairman Lee Kun-hee, and billionaire Warren Buffett, are highlighted at an exhibition in Seoul. The images drawn in a simplified or exaggerated way provide visitors with a laugh.
The image of the Russian president with an exceptionally big and sharp nose is the Grand Prize-winning piece, drawn by Japanese artist Tomoko Ogawa, at the Global Caricature Exhibition 2013 that kicked off on June 27 at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts. The other two, the eagle-eyed Samsung CEO drawn by French artist Anthony Geoffroy and the confident-looking Warren Buffett with his thumb up completed by Belgian artist Jan Op De Beeck, also received Gold and Silver prize respectively. The three prize-winning artists were given a plaque as well as cash prizes of USD 5,000, 3,000, and 2,000 respectively at the opening ceremony on June 26
While I am usually not the biggest fan of over-the-top aegyo, I’ve always liked B1A4 because they have never taken that image too seriously. They don’t try to be cute. They make fun of themselves a lot, and it’s that playfulness that makes them likable. It’s almost as if the cute factor is simply by happenstance.
Even though B1A4 has succeeded in drawing me toward the aegyo, it’s been great to see their maturity and talent, especially in “Tried to Walk” in their last album In the Wind. A new facet of the group was revealed, a facet that was neither forced nor suffocating (in terms of talent), like in “Baby I’m Sorry” off Ignition
