A giant billboard featuring actress Lee Young-ae and bibimbap has been posted in downtown Shanghai, China, Prof. Seo Kyoung-duk of Sungshin Women's University said on Monday.
He previously ran a similar full-page advertisement in the New York Times to promote the Korean dish of rice with an assortment of seasonal vegetables.
The billboard has been installed on the side of a mall in Qipu Lu, one of Shanghai's busiest shopping districts, and will remain there for six months.
"As reruns of Lee's hit drama 'Jewel in the Palace' are still being aired on several channels in China and Chinese people are becoming more interested in Korean food, I came to post the ad", Seo said.
Actress Lee Young-ae has been featured in a full-page ad in the New York Times promoting bibimbap, the healthful Korean dish of rice with assorted vegetables.
The ad was paid for by enthusiastic promoters of Korean cuisine including Seo Kyoung-duk, a public relations expert and professor at Sungshin Women's University.
The ad shows Lee, who played the lead role as a court cook in the hit TV series "Jewel in the Palace", neatly dressed in hanbok or traditional Korean dress.
"We wanted to promote the beauty of hanbok along with bibimbap", Seo said.
Actress Lee Young Ae is considering to make a sequel to the worldwide hit drama, “Jewel in the Palace” (Dae Jang Geum).

There have been continuous proposes to make it. ‘Jewel in the Palace’ is the only drama to have been exported to over 80 countries so it is no wonder that people would want a sequel.”
They added, “Occasionally there have been requests for her to make the sequel for the sake of patriotism but doing it for the money was not in her mind. She doesn’t want to disappoint her fans by making a sequel just for the money.”

After months of speculations and rumors, MBC has finally confirmed the rumors that a sequel to the smash-hit drama, ‘Jewel in the Palace (Dae Jang Geum)‘ has been green lit.
MBC released a special press release on September 17th revealing MBC’s head, Kim Jae Chul, recently spent 5 days visiting Chinene Hunan Satellite Broadcast center to produce an agreement to jointly produce a sequel to the hallyu drama.
Visiting Hunan TV, Shanghai Media Group and three broadcasting stations in total, the MBC head and his counterparts discussed jointly producing the drama and launching a new business together. On September 17, MBC has announced that they will produce “Dae Jang Geum 2,” a sequel to MBC’s mega-hit historical drama “Dae Jang Geum” (also widely known as “Jewel in the Palace“). Kim Jae Chul, the CEO of MBC, announced the sequel after visiting China’s Honam TV.
Honam TV first broadcasted the drama within China in 2005 and it became very popular, helping spread Hallyu in the region.
The CEO revealed that the sequel is planned to be in production in 2013 and has negotiated with Honam TV.
