With 22 weeks on top of the Billboard charts, K-pop superstars BTS has finally overtaken Miley Cyrus and Rihanna’s records on top of the charts. This is a milestone achievement for the K-pop group which has recently concluded their sold out US leg of their “Wings” World Tour.
According to a report by SBS Pop Asia, with 22 weeks on the Billboard charts, BTS now ranks third in the lists of artists who have the longest stay on the charts. They come next only to Taylor Swift who maintained her position on the Billboard Top 50 charts at 28 weeks. However, they are still a long way to go before beating the record set by Justin Bieber at 161 weeks.
In terms of ranking for musical groups, BTS is already leading the pack with their record. The closest boy band to their record is One Direction but they only maintained their foothold on the Billboard Top 50 for eight weeks.
Not only is BTS maintaining its position on the Top 50 chart, they are also maintaining a lock on the top of the charts since they started charting last October. They have consistently been in first or second positions for the past 22 weeks, leading many music experts to believe that they will be able to sustain their momentum and reach Taylor Swift’s record soon.
BTS has been proving its mettle in the international scene with their current success. They are also the only K-pop group nominated in this year’s Billboard Music Awards. The group is nominated for the Top Social Artist category and will be going head to head with the likes of Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Shawn Mendez who all enjoy a solid following internationally. The BTS ARMY, BTS’ official fandom has been preparing to propel the K-pop superstars to their first Billboard win as voting opens today, Kpopstarz reported.
