T.O.P, also known as Choi Seung-hyeon, has been devoid of his policeman status due to his arrest for smoking marijuana. His military life will remain as a stain in his life.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency committee confirmed that it was “unsuitable” after reviewing the possibility of his reinstatement on the 31st last month. As a result, the police will ask the army headquarters for the changeover. Upon receipt of the request, T.O.P shall be deprived of its duties and shall serve as a social worker or full-time reservist, completing his military service obligations.
T.O.P was enlisted in February of this year but was handed over to the court for suspicion of smoking four cannabis with a singer practitioner, in Yongsan-gu, Seoul last October. In June, he overdosed on benzodiazepine, the usual mental stability medication he was taking, and was discharged from hospital.
T.O.P denied the charges made against him and in the first trial he said, “I suffered from depression and instability for many years. I have committed a crime I can’t restore”. The judge sentenced T.O.P to two years imprisonment in October, and T.O.P did not appeal.
The legal judgment of T.O.P against smoking of cannabis has been completed, but the public’s eyes are still cold. As T.O.P’s rehabilitation is abandoned, he must serve as a social worker or a full-time reserve, not an active one.
Police said they would abolish the policy by 2023 and reduce it from the public relations workforce; Police officers, police bands, baseball clubs, and so on. Police are planning to reduce the size of 25,000 conscripted policemen by 20% every year from next year, but the controversy over T.O.P’s recent case has also been burdened.
