Ailee's Ex-Boyfriend Daniel Lee And His Process At Allkpop Parent Corporate Disregarded Of Radiolab Podcast On Her 2013 Nude Photo Scandal

K-Pop Crossover: NBC News Highlights Korean-American Artists Like Teddy Park And Ailee(Photo : Facebook)6Theory Media Vice President of Content Eun Duk “Daniel” Lee become not stated in the Radiolab report Radiolab co-hosts Jad Abumrad (right) and Robert Krulwich(Photo : courtesy of Radiolab's authentic Facebook page)It was the tale that shook Hallyu culture down to its foundations.

Back in 2013, 6Theory Media Vice President of Content Eun Duk "Daniel" Lee, the ex-boyfriend of K-pop star Ailee, reportedly attempted to sell nude footage of the vocalist to the South Korean tabloid Dispatch. When the photographsseemedin a while thereafter at the Korean entertainment news web page allkpop, enthusiasts were furious.

"It was our Watergate," Soompi editor AJ Park told the nationally broadcast WNYC program Radiolab, in a work released on Wednesday. "It was our K-popgate. It replaced everything."

But it was the revelation that Lee's corporate 6Theory Media owns allkpop that truly threw gas on the flame for lots of fans.

Though any connection with Ailee's ex throughcall or his connection to allkpop was conspicuously omitted of the Radiolab report, which testedthe hotupward thrust of paparazzi in Korea. The importance of the liked radio display and podcast, respected for it is in-depth and outside-the-box reporting, omitting such severemain points wasn't lost on Beyond Hallyu editor Lizzie Parker.

In a seething op-ed published on the UK-based K-pop-themed site on Wednesday, Paker, who declined to be interviewed for this article, laid into Radiolab for presenting an incomplete view of the story.

"It's bizarre that this podcast never mentioned that he was Ailee's ex-boyfriend," Parker wrote. "It's weird that they never mentioned that he admitted to looking to sell Dispatch the photos (even if he says he didn't leak them to allkpop)."

Though Lee gave the affect to admit in an on-air telephone outcry to the Seoul Broadcasting Gadget programme "One Evening of Television Entertainment" that he did if fact exist told inquire about promoting the nude photos to Dispatch, he claimed he was the truth iswanting to lend a hand Ailee she was allegedly tricked into posing nude for what she was told was a modeling audition.

"Because we had a tip from other folks alongside that more or lessfunction to sell Ailee's nude photos to the tabloid in mind, I just trulysought afterto peer if it was conceivable and I innocently asked. I had no other intention," Lee acknowledged in the 2013 interview.

The allkpop executive maintains he didn'tsupply his employers with the disclosing images.

"A false impressiontook place and I may bein a position tobestmake an apology more or less it," Lee said. "But what I would like to say is that I did not leak the photos."

For an allkpop reader commenting in a 2013 forum on the web contentbeneath the name Krevice, Lee's admission provoked more questions than answers.

"I too wonder about...this newest news that Daniel Lee made that phone call to Dispatch News, faking an be offering of the Ailee nude pics for money," Krevice wrote in a forum post on the website from quickly subsequently the incident.

"I wonder whetherany individualrunning at allkpop knew that Daniel Lee was going to make that phone call? Were there any discussions between allkpop staffas to if this was an okconceptahead of Daniel Lee doing that?"

The user has since been banned from commenting on the allkpop website, but the questions Krevice raised did obtain a reaction from a commenter named Ace, claiming to be a former allkpop moderator.

"From what I been told by ex-allkpop team of workers is that allkpop has not lied referring to being the leaker," Ace wrote. "They also have evidence for all in their claims. It was a dumb go by Daniel though to check the evidence out. However, all and sundry makes mistakes."

Following the incident, 6Theory rushed to factor a remarksaying Lee's innocence, putting forward that it whomever posted the X-rated pictureswerethe use of a Canadian IP cope with and that Ailee's checklist label YMC Entertainment was unfairly jumping to conclusions when they accused the site of misconduct.

"For complete disclosure, our employee, Daniel Lee did date Ailee in the past, however he did not post the photos in question," the statement read. "Not knowing whom the real culprit was, YMC grew to become the blame to the perfect target.

According to the court of public opinion though, it wasn't adequate according to the Radiolab piece, entitled "K-poparazzi."

"Really, their recognition merely tanks. It was a caution to them from K-pop fans 'don't mess with us.'" Park said in the podcast, concerning allkpop's backlash for publishing the nude photos of Ailee. "I mean I have not really followed them in a while, but they haven't recovered since then."

For Beyond Hallyu's editor, the irony of having Park remark on the legitimacy of her biggest competitor as a US-based Korean entertainment site that generated the Radiolab report's biggest credibility gap.

"The maximumfantastic moment was when a substantialbite of the tale about the backlash opposed to allkpop was told by the editor of Soompi, as though she had no stake in sharing the story of the site's intended downfall," Parker wrote.

"And the most frustrating phase is it isn't true. Up to 1 hate to mention it, allkpop has most commonly recovered."

Allkpop is lately the fourth result that looks in a Google seek of the term "kpop."

Radiolab's manufacturers and allkpop's editorial body of workersmay not straight away be reached for comment.

K-Pop Fan Sound-Off: What Do You Think About Ailee Being Removed From KyoChon Chicken Ads in Wake of Allkpop Nude Photo Scandal? KyoChon Chicken removed Ailee from their advertisements in the wake of her nude photo scandal Solo singerAilee can't seem to catch a break.

After her allkpopnude photo scandal made headlines earlier this month, her image was removed from several advertisements for the KyoChon Chicken franchise.

While public opinion has appeared to favor the singer and many netizens are shaking their fingers at allkpop VP Daniel Lee (for allegedly leaking the pics of his ex), many fans are wondering if the nude photo fallout could lead to Ailee losing her KyoChon Chicken endorsement deal all together.

All around the internet netizens are weighing in on the company's decision to remove Ailee's picture from their advertisement and promotional materials. As seen in the pictures above, KyoChon has edited out Ailee in two of their current ads.

Additionally, Ailee's voice has also been removed from KyoChon's radio commercials.

Fans of the singer are calling for a boycott of the chicken franchise saying that the company is taking matters too far. One advertising industry professional claims measures like this are common practice.

"As an ambassador, Ailee is a representative of the company and whatever her public image is becomes the company's image too," the ad pro expained toE News Daily."Many endorsement contracts include clauses giving the company permission to instantaneously remove ads in the event of a public scandal."

Video advertisements airing in the New York City branches of KyoChon chicken still include Ailee, so there is no saying exactly how widespread her removal has been. Requests for comment from KyoChon Chicken were not immediately responded to.

Ailee may be on an indefinite hiatus after allkpop published unauthorized nude photos of the singer on Nov. 10, but the battle has continued to rage online as several bloggers have called for a boycott of the Korean entertainment website.

Yet in the last several days, the Ailee fan outrage towards allkpop and their vice president of content Daniel Lee, believed to have leaked the nude photos, appears to have cooled.

"Is everyone done with their allkpop fast now?" a blogger known as allkcrap wrote in a post to the microblogging website Twitter on Wednesday.

"They're back at their [Twitter] follower levels pre-Ailee scandal."

Four days after the photos were published, the blogger reported, "after dropping about 22,000 followers, allkpop's Twitter account has rebounded and is gaining again."

But Asian Junkie's Jason Yu thinks the anti-allkpop sentiment has far from run its course.

"While the site is too big to capsize completely, they now have an uphill battle to regain the trust of the artists, fans, and companies," Yu wrote on Wednesday.

"Because as it is, to Koreans, they've permanently stained their brand and perception through their attempt to mess with Ailee. And that stuff is hard to get out.

"So the statement [allkpop staff member Matt Kim] posted earlier about Ailee not recovering is more than a little bit off," Yu added.

"It should say, 'I don't see allkpop recovering from this.'"

It took Sasha Traynor and Lizzie Parker, the founders of the online British publication Beyond Hallyu, less than 24 hours after the nude Ailee photos were published to call for a lifetime allkpop ban.

"After a discussion between my co-founder Sasha and myself we decided, as a website, to boycott allkpop completely from now on with support from the rest of our team," Parker wrote on Nov. 11.

Her post included a link to a statement on the website Tumblr with more details of Beyond Hallyu's allkpop ban.

"Beyond Hallyu will no longer be linking to articles from allkpop either on our website or on our social networking profiles," the statement read.

"As it now appears that allkpop themselves were the originating source for the photos of Ailee they are circulating we cannot condone this behavior."

"In Korea the release of these kinds of photos is illegal and it is also highly immoral," the statement added.

"We cannot stand by and watch this website attempt to destroy this young woman's career simply for page views. We will not stand by and watch her bodily autonomy and personal privacy be infringed on for the sake of advertising revenue."

Yet,Popdust reporter Jacques Peterson claims the nude photo scandal has helped Ailee's career.

"Multiple K-pop stars over the past year have received considerable backlash from fans and the public for offences as small as not smiling on stage or misusing a word in an interview, but Ailee...appears to be benefiting from her scandal," Peterson wrote on Monday.

"Since the photos hit the web, Ailee's surged ahead in the fan-voted polls for the 2013 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA). She's now ranking first for Best Female Artist, surpassing Lee Hyori, who was previously leading, as well as first in the Best Female Vocal Performance category, beating out last week's leader, IU."

With two days left before the 2013 MAMA ceremony, Ailee is still poised for a big win.

Ye it is unclear if she will appear, after her tearful acceptance speech at last week's MelOn Music Awards.

"After Ailee started crying on the stage, all the tears that she's been holding back burst. She couldn't control her tears even on her way home," a representative from Ailee's record label YMC Entertainment said in a statement published to the singer's official Facebook page on Saturday.

"I think all the hardship she held in her heart exploded. All the support from so many people moved her heart."

The rep offered only vague details regarding the singer's hiatus.

"She will be taking a rest. We don't have anything specially planned out for her and she needs a time to rest her body and heart."

Requests from KpopStarz for comment from Daniel Lee, allkpop and YMC Entertainment were not immediately responded to.

Ailee Nude Photo Scandal Rundown Part 2Ailee Predebut Photo Scandal Rundown, Part 2: The Aftermath [Check out Part 1 here if you haven't done so already. This is a continuation of the original article.]

If anything about this scandal is absolutely certain, Ailee has bounced back relatively unscathed. Based on the immediate reactions of international fans, K-pop Idols, and Korean fans, public opinion on the scandal is nearly unanimous. Most are supportive of Ailee continuing with her activities as scheduled, commenting that she is very confident in herself for doing so.

1. [+3,291, -330] I like that shes confident of course, I wanted a better excuse than the lingerie model lie but I guess thats the company to blame for their lack of creativity

2. [+2,720, -194] Its not like shes a criminal or anything, its good to see her keep her head up high

3. [+2,352, -113] Its the nature of being a celebrity. You shouldnt dream of becoming one without thinking of the risks involved Your private life is no longer yours if you want to achieve popularity. Overcome the risks and youre rewarded with massive amounts of money.

4. [+2,114, -128] Good to see that shes not hiding but out and confident

5. [+946, -35] Yeah, I prefer this than Jiyeon saying its not her even if it kills her

6. [+500, -60] Seungris still out on TV even after getting his picture taken after sleeping with a girl. Ailee has nothing to hide, continue to promote as you are. The man who leaked the photos will cry tears of blood soon. You are amazing, Ailee.

7. [+354, -35] In this day and age, weve all seen more graphic content. Nothing to be ashamed of, Ailee. Fighting!

8. [+318, -26] Such a different response compared to Jiyeon and IU ㅋㅋㅋ But then again, their excuses about taking her clothes off because she was hot and visiting the sick were just unbelievable Whatever, Ailees a great singer so it doesnt matter.

This sentiment was further confirmed when Ailee attended the Melon Music Awards, where she won not just the Top 10 award, but the overwhelming support of the audience.

Not all worked out in Ailees favor, however, She has been removed from several of her recent CFs. and despite the strong support for the singer, the response to the CF issue was more or less accepting of those companies decisions. One netizen wrote, You cant really deny that her image was impacted by this, while others spoke out in support of the companies that decided to retract Ailees involvement in their advertising campaigns.

YMC, in a follow-up statement, explained that they would be pursuing legal action against the source of the leaks. Though not explicitly mentioned, a legal suit is likely to be taken against Allkpop, as YMC is reported to have hired American lawyers.

Around the same time, Allkpops CEO, Johnny Noh, held an exclusive interview with Asia Econ, to clarify and discuss Allkpops extent of involvement in the scandal. He reasserted his companys claims of reaching out to YMC beforehand, and that Allkpop bears no connection with the original release of the photos. Below is just a selection of his comments from that interview; Noh also mentions that in response to YMCs push for a legal action against Allkpop, his company is possibly planning to counter.

1. How did this happen?

At the end of June, we received an offer in our tip box regarding nude pictures of singer Ailee. When we called him, we were able to find out that he was a foreigner living in Toronto, Canada. He asked for $3,500 for the pictures. We told him, Leaking the photos will cause big problems later. He replied to us, Im scared of that as well. Ill stop here.

2. Did you contact YMC?

It was an important matter so we directly contacted a YMC staff member. They actually told us that we were making it up and when we asked why, they accused our staff member, Ailees ex-boyfriend, of trying to sell the photos to Dispatch. They said that if this was to become a problem later, theyd take legal action so we were free to do whatever we wanted.

3. Did you check with her ex-boyfriend?

After we found out, we asked him and he denied it. He said he looked into the matter out of his own curiosity but that was it. He has nothing to do with this leak. We checked with him over a hundred times.

4. But the pictures were eventually uploaded on allkpop.

On the 10th, we received another tip in our tip box. When we researched the link, it was uploaded by someone from Toronto, Canada. The picture had already been uploaded in July and again in October. We decided that the pictures were already released to the world.

5. YMC claims that Ailee sent those photos to her ex-boyfriend for his help. There are suspicions that he is involved in this for business/monetary reasons.

Thats an unfounded accusation. Weve already discussed with him about the picture several times. The means in which the pictures were acquired is completely different. This scandal is putting us at a great loss as well. Our server was down because of the influx of page visits and our advertisements were cut off.

The story complicated, however, when Dispatch disclosed the audio recording of ex-boyfriend attempting to sell the pictures to them, which matched the written transcript. SBS later released a phone interview with the accused leak source, the ex-boyfriend from Allkpop, and to no ones surprise, the audio was compared.

These amateur comparisons led to netizens concluding that the two ex-boyfriends in question were really the same person. In response, Allkpop confirmed that the ex working at Allkpop was the voice in both the Dispatch and SBS audio. While no explicit statements were made about Daniel Lee being that boyfriend, it has been generally assumed that he is the person involved.

In a later interview, the ex (or Lee) stated that while he did make the phone calls to the Dispatch, he did not intend to leak or sell those photos. According to the ex, the call to Dispatch was made in response to an email Allkpop received regarding those photos [the email evidence Allkpop released in their first statement]. He claimed he wanted to see if it were possible to sell those photos to the Korean media as the tipster had allegedly done. The ex-boyfriend apologized for causing a misunderstanding and that [he] did not leak the photos.”

In short, the events surrounding the leak of the photos has become he-said-she-said chaos. Little information exists (apart from proliferating rumors) as to who, when, where, or why anything involving the photos occurred as it did. At this point, the only thing that is confirmed is that Daniel Lee, or more accurately, the ex-boyfriend, called Dispatch about selling the photos, though this does not technically implicate him for releasing the photos to the public. With all of the conflicting statements running around, we can only wait till the formal legal dispute takes place to truly uncover the facts.

Ailee Nude Photo Scandal Rundown

Ailee Nude Photo Scandal RundownAilee Predebut Photo Scandal Rundown The recently released nude photos of Ailee have taken the K-pop world by storm for the last twenty hours. Heres what you mightve missed.

Last night, Allkpop posted an article containing undated nude photos of Ailee, all stamped with Allkpops watermark. The article received widespread attention and scrutiny, to which Allkpop staff member Matt Kim and 6Theory CEO Johnny Noh tweeted in response:

The photos were traced back to an AnonIB forum thread where an anonymous user had posted them in June.

Shortly thereafter, Dispatch released a transcription of their correspondence with Ailees alleged ex-boyfriend dating to July of this year. He claimed to possess nude photos of Ailee and wanted to sell them to Dispatch.

Ex-Boyfriend: I have several photos of Ailee. I was wondering if you were interested in them.

Dispatch: What kind of photos are they?

Ex: Shes completely naked in them. Shes not wearing anything; front, back, nothing

Dispatch: How did you get them?

Ex: I got them from Ailee herself.

Dispatch: Ailee gave them to you directly? Why?

Ex: I was her ex-boyfriend.

Dispatch: Did you receive the nude photos via [mobile] messenger?

Ex: Yes

Dispatch: And now you want to go public with them?

Ex: Thats the plan.

Dispatch: Selling pictures you personally received could get you into trouble. You shouldnt offer them to the media.

Ex: I see. Youre different from other media outlets. Ill contact elsewhere.

Dispatch. The point is that what youre doing is dangerous.

Ex: Its not illegal.

Dispatch: It is illegal. This is her personal life so you could be sued. And any media outlet that does buy those photos from you is wrong. Its best if you dont do it.

Ex: Yes, I understand.

Ailees management agency YMC Entertainment released a statement explaining that the nude photos were camera test shots that were taken while Ailee was in the United States after she received an offer to become a lingerie model. However, the agency that had requested the nude shots was later discovered to be a fraudulent operation targeting female college students. Nevertheless, due to the complexity of the operations internet-based activity, the police were unable to make any arrests with regards to the situation.

Following this event, Ailee went to see her then-boyfriend (who YMC identifies as having worked for Allkpop at the time) to discuss the situation. Ailee was persuaded by her boyfriend to send the photos from the shoot to him. YMC continued by saying that they would seek legal action against the person who circulated the photos.

Several hours later, 6Theory Media (Allkpops parent company) posted a response letter of their own clarifying their methods of acquiring of the photos as well as the alleged involvement of 6Theory vice president Daniel Lee in the scandal. 6Theory claims that a Canadian tipster emailed 6Theory in June offering to sell nude photos of Ailee. The tipster explained over a phone conversation with 6Theory that s/he didnt have access to Sports Seoul or Dispatch but would be willing to contact them if [Allkpop] didnt break the story. Claiming to be serving as a middleman for the original owner of the photos, the tipster offered $3500 USD for the full set of photos.

Allkpop initially replied that they were not interested, and the tipster told them that s/he would be contacting another media agency. Following this exchange, Allkpop claims to have contacted YMC Entertainment informing of the information they had received from this tipster, and told YMC that they would be willing to disclose his/her contact information if YMC were to pursue legal action. However, Allkpop reports that YMC disregarded the matter. Nevertheless, Allkpop informed YMC that they would not post anything with regards to the photos unless the photos themselves were posted on the internet by a third party, and claimed that as their job and duty as a news site, they would then be obligated to write and post the story.

On November 10th, Allkpop received an email containing a link to the AnonIB forum post containing the nude photos of Ailee. Allkpop suspects that this email came from the same tipster who had contacted them in June, as the IP addresses of both emails traced back to the same ISP in Toronto. Following this, Allkpop made the decision to run the story, claiming that it is [their] policy to report on the truth.

In addition, Allkpop clarified that while 6Theory VP Daniel Lee did date Ailee in the past, he did not post the photos.

Since then, notable K-pop idols who have had friendly ties with Allkpop in the past such as G.NA, Jay Park, f(x)s Amber, miss As Min, U-Kiss Kevin and Super Juniors Siwon have unfollowed Allkpops Twitter account. Several artists under Muzi Entertainment (whose roster is primarily composed of Korean-Americans) also spoke out publicly against Allkpops handling of the matter:

fuck @allkpop. tag your ugly ass logo on this.

— johnnyphlo | 쟈니플로 (@Johnnyphlo) November 11, 2013

fuck @allkpop — DC (@deciphermusic) November 11, 2013

FUCK @allkpop. — Andy Yoo (@andyyoo87) November 11, 2013 @allkpop

— Goni Kim (@gonimusic) November 11, 2013

Korean media outlets have been following the news closely, and Korean netizens are responding in kind. Many seem to be less concerned about the nude photos themselves; instead, the bulk of the attention (and the blame) seems to have been placed on the alleged photo-leaking ex-boyfriend:

[+6,911, -349] If this is true, its Ailee whos the victim here and her ex whos the criminal

[+642, -37] I heard her ex-boyfriend released. What an utter ba$tard.

[+618, -12] Is he crazy? How could he think of making money off of the nudes of his ex-girlfriend? I highly doubt hes a normal human being

[+135, -10] Ailee did nothing good herself but that ex is the one with the problem for using his ex girlfriends picture for money. Ailees a talented artist so Im upset shes involved in something like this. Find strength.

[+96, -19] The problem in this entire scandal is her ex-boyfriend. No need to direct the hate to Ailee.. shes a talented artist as well.

[+87, -13] I cant believe her ex-boyfriend used her to make a quick buck

[+43, -2] Shes not sane to send her boyfriend nudes but if anyones in the wrong, its the ex This is a crime through and through.

[+42, -6] Such trash The person deserving of hate is not Ailee but him

[+38, -4] I hope Ailee comes out confide

nt.. and I hope that people will stop caring about things like this so other trashy men like him in the future have no market for it

[+28, -7] He obviously tried to make some cash by soliciting Korean media outlets but it was an international site that ended up buying it. Ailee is the victim. Lets make that clear here.

Because the controversy surrounding Ailee, YMC Entertainment, and Allkpop is constantly developing and much of the information and rumors circulating amongst the K-pop blogosphere has yet to be verified, we at Seoulbeats are awaiting confirmation of the facts before publishing our own analysis and opinions. For the time being, however, we will be keeping a vigilant eye on the situation and providing updates periodically.

Park Yoo-chun's rape scandal isn't an identical as Lee Min-ki's

The showbiz is set to hit a storm. News after news has been pouring out and a few eventide say that society is attemptingto hide up anythinglarger alongside scandals like these. It ischallenging to considersituationswerearisingevery day which is causing the public's sentiment to turn into dark.

Comedian Yoo Sang-moo, Lee Juno and Park Yoo-chun have all been accused for sexual offense. In addition, the unforeseen Lee Min-ki used to be also charged with rape.

A media reported that Lee Min-ki turned into charged with rape then discoverednow not guilty. Netizens were appalled with any other male celebrity's shameless behavior.

However, Lee Min-ki isn't an identical as Yoo Sang-moo, Lee Juno or Park Yoo-chun. Whether they were found to blame or not, those 3 were direct other peopleconcerned with the accusers yet Lee Min-ki was an accidental case.

To clarify, it seems like Lee Min-ki was sued for rape after having sex with a girl he met in a club, but actually, he has not anything to do with the case entirely.

Lee Min-ki did cross to a club in Busan but the girl who accused him of rape acknowledged his callby way of mistake and cancelled the feescorrect away. She even apologized to him.

Later, Lee Min-ki was just found 'not guilty'.

The control released a public announcement explaining what came aboutor even so, was careful about pronouncing too much in case it caused any misunderstanding.

They added that they was hopingnot more meaningless injurygot herethru this.

The scandal turns out bad as it looks like Lee Min-ki was found not guilty after having sex with a lady he met in a club.

In addition, he's on Public Accountabilitypresently and is being criticized for illiberal behavior. As a Public Duty worker, he has to head through this to a undeniable point especially at a time like this when sexual scandals are being treated so sensitively.

However, Park Yoo-chun's case is other by nature. If he wasn't immediatelyin contact with the case and his name was put at the list of rapists by accident, it can exist very unfortunate. Even if he would not be so unfastened by ethical compass.

Meanwhile, Yoo Sang-moo, who was charged with attempted rape in a motel, is about to be forwarded to the prosecutors. Lee Juno has been forwarded to the prosecutors already. He was charged with sexually harassing girls in a club.

Park Yoo-chun who has been charged with rape on four accounts, was found not guilty but is still involved with prostitution, risk and false accusation charges.
