Wonder Girls Sun Expresses her Thoughts on K-Pop at Riding the Korean Wave ForumWonder Girls member Sun was seen at the George Washington University Jack Morton Auditorium on Tuesday night as a guest speaker to talk about the 'Hallyu wave.'
Sun was the third speaker at the forum that was packed with around 200 people.
The singer spoke about how K-Pop had spread to beyond their imagination and that K-Pop is becoming a global trend. An example she talked about was Psy's "Gangnam Style" and how he has become so famous in the states and now the whole world.
She continued to talk about the dangers of the K-Pop culture in that idols debut at such a young age that they sometimes don't know what they are singing about and they get discouraged easily. She also stated that fans have surpassed just being 'fans' and that they are now 'worshipping' them. Idols must now take responsibility and portray a good image as many fans look up to them as role models.
Sun also mentioned that "stars are the tools of influence" and that they can influence people in different countries as well as K-Pop expands around the world.
This reminded Sun of how important her position was in this industry. She also stated, "I realized that it is not only about the fame, but also the responsibility."
