In Korea, golf manages to be both popular and elite. How is it possible to be both at the same time?
Korean cities are densely populated and the peninsula’s mountainous terrain makes land for golf courses scarce. This lack of wide open spaces has made playing 18 holes an expensive endeavour that requires a trip far out into the countryside.
Technology has offered a solution in the form of screen golf, which gives players a cheaper option for practicing golf that’s also close to home. Screen golf simulators have spread across the country and can be found in fitness centers as well as in standalone businesses.

Korean indoor driving range maker RD-Tek is particularly well-known for its high-quality screen golf systems.
For example, RD-Tek’s X-Golf PRO is regarded as one of the most realistic screen golf experiences because of its 3D simulator, powered by a high power CPU and a sports measurement analyzer. High speed wireless sensors deliver very accurate results for aspects like the ball’s travel distance and spin.

The 3D graphics go beyond just the basic layout of the course, simulating the breeze blowing through the trees, real-time lighting changes to highlight the landscape, cloud movements according to wind speed and detailed grass effects.

Players can also track their stroke movements. Each stroke count and travel path can be displayed, stored and printed out. By analyzing these results, players can improve their game and skill.

In addition to its high-tech features, these simulators bring realistic golfing experiences to the comfort of your home. There’s no need to pack up the clubs and lug them around all day. You can play golf regardless of the weather outside.
Additionally, you’ll feel like you’re playing golf around the world, as the courses are set in locations including Ireland, China, the U.S. and of course, Korea.
