The Korean Cultural Center at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea is proud to announce the 2012 Taekwondo Photo & Video Contest, a nationwide search for exceptional photography and video creations that capture the spirit and unique personal experiences of Taekwondo, Koreas native martial art. The annual contest, now in its fourth year, has been a key embassy program for promoting and reaffirming the special bond between the United States and the Republic of Korea by bringing together people from diverse backgrounds with a common passion. Previous years have included essay and visual art categories, while this years contest changes gears to highlight original photography and videos. EligibilityThe 2012 Taekwondo Photo & Video Contest is open to everyone currently living in the United States with an interest in Taekwondo, regardless of citizenship. Each applicant may submit one photo and one video. Submission Guidelines & ProceduresEntries will be accepted from June 18 to September 21. No late submissions will be accepted after September 21. Applicants might not receive individual notification that their photo has been received, but will be notified when judging is complete.A. Photo ContestPhoto entries must be submitted as a JPG image file that is under 5 MB in size, at least 2000×3000 pixels, and 200 dpi. Film photos must be scanned and submitted as a JPG image file that is under 5 MB in size, at least 2000×3000 pixels, and 300 dpi. Applicants are free to choose any topic or subject related to Taekwondo. Applicants should also choose and submit a title for their photo in their application form.Entries will be judged on the following criteria: Expressiveness (20%), Creativity (20%), Content (30%), and Relevance to the Topic (30%). The photo should be the applicants own work, not a copy or containing material copied from another source, and not previously submitted to other contests. Video ContestVideo entries must be completed and uploaded to Youtube. Videos must be 3-5 minutes long. Applicants are free to choose any topic or subject related to Taekwondo. Applicants should also choose and submit a title for their photo in their application form. Entries will be judged on the following criteria: Expressiveness (20%), Creativity (20%), Content (30%), and Relevance to the Topic (30%). The video should be the applicants own work, not a copy or containing material copied from another source, and not previously submitted to other contests. To enter, send an email to with your completed application form attached, including a working link to your video on Youtube. Please do not attach your video to the email. In the email subject line, write 2012 Taekwondo Video Contest – YOUR NAME.Permissions, Usage, and Copyright WaiverBy submitting a photo or video to the contest (the work), the applicant agrees to surrender all copyrights to and ownership of the submitted work to the Korean Cultural Center, to whom the applicant gives permission to use the submitted work for publication, copying, display, and other promotional purposes. By submitting a photo or video to the contest, the applicant also asserts that they have obtained all necessary permissions to photograph or record subjects depicted in their work, such as people, places, businesses, and property. Judging and PrizesIn both the photo and video contest categories, finalists will be judged by a panel of experts in one of three age groups: Group 1: elementary school students (Kindergarten through grade 5) Group 2: middle and high school students (grades 6 through 12) Group 3: college students and adults NOTE: The creator of the photo or video work is the applicant. So, for example, if a parent wants to enter a photograph or video featuring their child, the parent would complete the application for and the entry would be judged in Age Group 3: college students and adults.In each age group, three (3) entries will be selected for recognition, totaling nine (9) winners in each contest category.
