Super Junior’s Kangin plans to make his comeback through Japanese musical version of “Goong,” or “Palace.” A representative revealed that Kangin was cast as a major role. The musical will take place at Tokyo Gotanda U-Port Hall on September 1.

Many consider this as sign of good tidings to come for Kangin, who had suspended his activities since 2009 after a series of unfortunate episodes. In July 2010, he enlisted in the military to afford time for self-reflection and was honorably discharged this past April.

Having returned after a three year hiatus, the news of Kangin’s role is expected to build anticipation among his fans. Kangin has already built up a steady reputation for acting through his roles in “Attack on the Pin-Up Boys” and “Hello Schoolgirl.” In this upcoming musical, he is cast as Lee Shin, the stern crown prince who seems uninterested, but turns out to have a warm heart.

However, Group 8, a company in charge of the production of “Goong,” announced, “It’s difficult to say for certain,” on this news. SM Entertainment also added uncertainty by announcing, “It is true that a number of different musicals are demanding him.”

Meanwhile, “Goong” is a drama based on a highly popular comic book series. Based on the premise that Korea is a constitutional monarchy, the drama explores the romantic comedy between the crown prince and an ordinary high school girl after their arranged marriage.
